add in the fact that the 530 has rack*&pinion steering as opposed to the recirculating ball steering in the 540 and M5...

One of the dealerships in New York state was telling me that, according to a friend of his (who is the BMW North American "M" brand manager) there will be no E60 body style M5.

As per this gent, BMW are moving away from 4 door M products and will stick to the Coupe and Convertible products going forward..

Has anyone else heard this?

P.S. My Carbon black on black M5 is 6 weeks away.. If my (not the above dealer) is accurate.. cannot wait !

Yeah, right. And if you're in the market for some prime real estate, I can get you a good deal on some undeveloped land in Florida that has some minor drainage issues.

No more M5=no more BMW.Would become just another car maker.
M5 has become THE CAR,it's a cult car now, image maker,it would be a suicide for them to discontinue production.I don't believe it.

I heard that because of the engine size of the 540 and M5,BMW can not fit the preferred rack-n-pinion steering mechanism under the bonnet.

So the M5 and 540 are suboptimal on this ground.
