So as my other thread got real long, I decided to start a new one which will contain pics of the build process. I will try and answer any questions along the way.

So the car was dropped off a few weeks back and the build was awaiting the arrival of the Mahle pistons......these arrived Monday (2 weeks late) and only after contacting the head of Mahle. Hopefully everything from here on goes smoothly and as planned :)

A little bit of history.....

The car being dropped off at ESS ready for the low compression build,

Here are some of the parts ready for the build (important parts) mmmmmm

Here is the car ready to be taken apart;

So far this is all I have but I will add more as they come in.

Thanks all, I really hope everything goes as planned. The only issues we have found so far is a small leak from the tranny but nothing major and a cross thread V clamp, again nothing major and I am sure Eloy will look after me on that piece.

Now hp/dollar I have not worked out yet but it should be a little higher than adding a SC kit and thats due to labor costs.

Leak from the tranny huh?

That's no good :(

Well the mechanic said it was nothing as it might have been caused from the previous work that was performed on the car, I have not seen anything on my garage floor in almost 3 years so it must have been real small. I am actually glad the owner said he is anal and will tell me of every flaw as this really makes me feel that the job will be done to perfection when it's all buttoned up.

How much power are you expecting to get after this build Paul? Looking forward to see it finish.
Not sure but I am going to say I want to add 100hp and about 60-70ftlbs trq. If I can hit over 710hp on a dynojet to the wheels then I am happy.
Then I will start looking into my V4 project for later this year :M5thumbs:

Congrats. I love an engine build!
Carrillo rods, that's a good start. Which pistons are you using? Planned CR (10.5:1 maybe)?

Hi Ranger, I am going with Mahle pistons and we are dropping compression to 10.1:1.

Tony there was some work done on the car prior to my purchase as it was noted on the paper work when I purchased the car, looks like they installed and new clutch, flywheel and some other items. I know it had a minor leak at one time but it was fixed by Aaron so I presume what the builder was seeing was some residue from that leak.

Good luck Paul you are a Maniac! 700HP now that's what you call a beast!

Keep us updated. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Any update on the rod bearings yet? Will you be replacing the vanos pump while its apart for added assurance?

#30 ·
Waiting on updates from the shop but I know the main guy (owner) does not work Mondays so I will prob get more pics tomorrow.

For the vanos pump etc.., they will be inspecting all parts so it is not one of those just replace everything while you are in there kind of deal.

Small items like the lines I have said go ahead and replace them.

Mahle pistons, outstanding. I also went with Mahle pistons with my 4.2L bore/stroke GT3RS build.
Not cheap but absolutely worth it.

Right now my only concern is getting the car done in time for bimmerfest :confused3.......going to have to take some time away from work tomorrow and make some important phones calls :haha:

Well here are some updated pics, the engine is out and has started to be teared down. The shop is a man down so the owner is doing most of the work. He said bearing pics will be up soon.

Good thing he noted was that the engine and all other items looked in real good shape.

Almost out....sorry for the fuzzy pic but the man is at work hiha

Car is without a heart :sad1:

Doesn't she look all pretty
