Odd oil leak after cooler install

Two days ago I swapped in a new oil cooler and filled Vanessa up with Lubro Moly. There was a lot of oil spilled from the faulty cooler and I thought I had cleaned up 90% of it from the underside of the car. I did not remove the trays, but thought I could see in pretty well and there did not appear to be much oil there, some, not a lot.

Today, I go out and check and there are three droplets and a smearing of what looked like new oil. WTF? I removed the front tray which is now coated in more oil on the underside, cleaned it up and then inspected for oil leakage. The new cooler is dry, so no faulty install on my part. I did see a drip coming from the plastic radiator shroud that sits behind the oil cooler. I separated the cover about 1/4" and cleaned it up and there was a slow seep. I'm guessing this was from the old oil explosion and it is making its way out?

I don't know what to make of the oil that looked new. The only place that had a drip that I was not expecting was the filer cap. What is the bolt in the middle for? Mine is stripped and that might has a slow leak, I don't know yet.

Thanks,

Chris

You should only lose the oil in the filter housing...1 liter or less....

The screw is metal, and the oil filter cap is plastic, so I would assume you stripped the plastic cap. You can try to buy a new screw and o-ring, See if it still leaks, or buy a new screw, o-ring, plastic cap, o-ring for cap.. I think the cap is around 50 bucks last I saw.
You will loose around half a quart from letting the oil out from the filter housing. Remove the screw will be easy to tell which you stripped. Clean the area and drive around and let sit, and check again for leaks.

I had the same screw stripped by the dealer tech. and when they try to fit a new cap, they told me the new cap dose not fit the filter housing, so how BMW changed the part, they have to replace the whole housing. and the filter on mine since they replaced will not accept after market filters, it will leak, unless the filter is BMW filter, it is so weird.
