I actually raced a Mustang Cobra form a rolling start of about 15 mph to ? (couldn't look at the head up display even-lol). I do not know the year but it did look very close to a current model car and it sounded VERY throaty at slow speed (which is why I just could not resist getting on his tail.) It did have "COBRA" predominantly displayed on the lower bumper.

I have to say that I was very surprised at the power of the Cobra. He darted off and I followed. I hung right with him and then gained a bit between his shifts but that was all that I could do and I had the beast hammered to the floor. We hit what must have been around 80 mph and I seemed to gain ground pretty quickly. At first I thought he let off the gas but then on second guess I believe I just had a heck of a lot longer power band at higher speeds. I believe had we not run out of room that I would have gone by him. Again though, that baby was fast and I had to keep it to the floor in M mode to just barely hang with him. Surprising?

btw...I am a "driver". No weird shifts...nothing to cause me ANY disadvantage form a driver's standpoint. Still in disbelief that I would have to be on the car that hard to really just do nothing much more than hang with him. The Cobra must have massive hp and torque. Again, not sure what year (other than knowing from looks it was late model...possibly current year). He was pushing it hard with black smoke pouring out on hard shifts.

REALLY would be interested in some feedback from those of you who are familiar with COBRAs.
RPI scoop without Block Off Plate

refer to this thread. it seems as if people are confused or do not trust the plate while others do.

The way I see it is...if RPI really did their research..then the scoops would not be bundled with the filter and blockoff plates. Im sure it has been clarified in the past but...i guess it needs to be addressed again

There are too many late model Mustang Cobra/GT500/etc to say what you ran. Suffice to say they are all very fast, and can easily run with an E60 M5 - it really comes down to the driver. If you had already mastered your beast, I'd say you could have taken him easily. Since you haven't, I'm not surprised that you had some trouble.
Ran it in M mode. Had shift set at 5, shifting at approx 8K RPM, did not have DTC disabled. Frankly, I ran him pretty good. Got most of my powerband I felt but that bad boy was fast. Looking at Cobra pics on the net I am going to say that it was not a 2009-20012 because of the COBRA being in big letters on the rear bumper. Not sure. I am a very big car guy so am disappointed that I did not pay closer attention.

Sort of curious at your statement though....first you say they can "easily run with an E60 M5". Then you say it is up to the driver and if I had mastered the beast I "could have taken him easily". Pretty big stretch. I will in no way claim to have mastered the car yet, however, I am experienced with SMG and pretty darn spot on with the shifts, etc. and conscious of getting the full powerband out of a car. Honestly, I was very surprised. Driving me nuts. Funny thing is that I have a buddy with a 500+ HP supercharged Cobra that is the same color, and he turned down a street near where he lives. I did a u turn and the guy went down another road (almost dodging me). I decided not to pursue and stalk the guy just in case and I called my buddy and got no answer. If it was in fact him I will be relieved. Oh well, who knows what it was. Regardless, I ran with a damn fast car and had we continued I would have blown by him.

Your recollection that COBRA was clearly on the lower bumper makes me think it was a 2003/2004. They are very quick in stock form and freakishly fast with just minor mods (Pulley/Tune/Exhaust). A very respectable match for a 4 door sedan

I've run quite a few..

Yeah, I believe you are right. 2003-2004 by the looks of it. So, in other words, I should not be disappointed that I could only hang with him? My car is fully stock except the RPI scoops and block off plates. Just ordered the tune today. Thanks for the input.

One last thing...with the exception of one video you seemed to walk away form those cars while I did not. Were they all stock, modded as far as you know? Would you attribute the extra power you seem to have directly to your tune? Silly ques. I know. this is just driving me nuts. Sort of expected to walk on him. Would you think I would have been better suited running in 500S mode with DTC off? Do you see more power, faster acceleration running that way or are you offsetting the faster shifts with wheel spin? Seems logical to have in in 6 mode but not sure.

Can you post pix of the interior - want to see what the palomino looks like.

Thanks - and welcome!
Thank you very much! They are actually not polished. They are brushed clear. HRE hand brushes each wheel to give it a unique look. I have never seen anything like it. EVERY INCH of the wheel is finished including the full barrel and even the outer side (where the tire mounts and covers it). Truly amazing how they showed up. Super lightweight as well. Everyone in the shop had to come out and pick them up.

I will get some pics of the interior up asap. It is actually a bit darker than I though it would be. I am very pleased to say that because I am not a big fan of the lighter tan (not that it dos not look good. We all have our preference). Very cool mix (at least in my opinion) with the black seat backs, carpeting, dash trim, headliner and Madeira Walnut wood trim.

Browsing the net for Cobra specs, it shows the car has 390hp and 390lb-ft. Accelerations numbers are 0-60 at 4.5s and 1/4m in 12.9s and 111mph. These specs aren't far off from a stock M5 so if it was modded, I can see why it would be right there with your car or even faster depending how much was done.

Cool. Thanks for that. What year model were those specs for?

Can you tell that I am a sore loser?

That was for an '04.

I feel you though. I'd definitely like to think that my V10 with 500hp should be enough to crush most things on the street especially older cars but those stangs are easy to mod.

On a slightly different note, I was merging on the freeway the other day in heavy traffic and this guy in a mid 90s Camaro was behind me. He felt the need to gun it around me to merge before I do. I stayed in the merging lane and ended up way in front of him. About a mile later, he came up on my right and revved his engine several times and screeched his tires. Did I mention we were in heavy traffic going about 5mph??? WTH was this guy trying to prove? hahaha I was wishing we'd get to some open road so I can teach him a lesson but it also occurred to me, what if I lost?? LOL

Either way, that guy was a douche. What's the point of revving in traffic???

Here's a random dyno on the net to show what I mean: http://www.dragtimes.com/images_dyno...MW-M5-Dyno.jpg

Sorry - too much "easily" in there - some hyperbole perhaps. My meaning, which I think you get, is that with similarly powered cars, the driver's mastery of his steed can have a significant impact on the outcome of a race - especially with a car as difficult to master as the E60 M5.
