Which Would You Choose?

A loaded '06 with 35k miles or an '08 with 54k miles without HUD, vented seats, M multi-function seats . . .? $35k vs $40k

I would stay away from both. '06 have too many problems and you don't want an E60 M5 without a HUD, the other stuff isn't as big a deal.

Good luck.

I would tell you to remain picky and get exactly what you want. It took me 9 months of searching to find the exact model I was looking for. Once I did find it, it took me another two months of negotiating with the dealership for them to budge on the asking price at all. You will be MUCH happier if you hold out for exactly what you are looking for. They are out there, but you must be patient.

There is a loaded '08 with 49K miles at a local dealer, but it's priced $5k higher than the one I have driven. They will come off the price $1,500 right now, but it just came in and they are in no hurry to drop the price anymore. It comes with a 6 month 8k miles powertrain warranty, but it out of warranty otherwise. I like the car, but I was looking to buy private to avoid $5-$6K in taxes and fees on top of the higher asking price. But I hear what you are saying. I am in a little time crunch because I want this bigger car to replace my smaller Audi A4 due to an expanding family, LOL. Yes, I want/need a 500hp baby hauler.

I have three kids and regularly put them all in the backseat. The M5 works great for kids, especially when they are yelling from the backseat, "Hit the M button and go, daddy!"

Don't know if you did this, but offer them a cash deal for $5k less and tell them ready to buy today. In this market, cash is

Always wait and get what you want when it comes to the E60 M5. It took a long time for me to choose just the right M5 with the feature set I wanted. HUD is a MUST!! 2006 models are indeed touchy and you should certainly look at aftermarket warranty if you take it. My '06 has had a few problems already in the 2 years that I have owned it, but the NAC warranty has been there to handle it.

Also, don't underestimate the costs of going to LCI from a pre-LCI model. Sooner or later, you will get the itch to convert. I'm undergoing the conversion right now and it is both expensive and time consuming.

Good luck!

I am not sure why everyone says HUD is a must, I have it and could take it or leave it. Seems like a novelty item which is not functional with polarized sunglasses.

I got fairly lucky. I searched for less than 2 weeks and found an 08 SMG with only 28,500 miles totally loaded for $45k. Just keep looking.
