Service price for SMG and Diff

The time has come to change the fluid in the SMG and the diff on my beast. So I called the dealer I always go to to get an idea on what to expect in terms of cost...and boy was I shocked. Just to drain and refill the SMG was $556 bucks and to drain and refill the diff was another $330 bucks. $886 dollars for both! I am missing something here? Are the these rates similar to what other members have been quoted or paid?

I have thought about doing them myself, I have the skill and knowledge, but honestly a little uncomfortable removing parts of the hyd. system to get to the fill plug on the SMG. I did a seach and saw that the cooler had to be moved out of way to access the fill plug on the SMG. If members have done this please comment, I am sure it is easier then what I have built it up to be in my own mind. Or if anyone has the TIS instructions and would be willing to share that would be great as well.

Thanks!

I just had my car serviced at my BMW dealer today: I got oil changed, spark plugs, differential fluid, transmission fluid, and coolant all changed for a little over $1200. They also looked into adjusting my sunroof (wind noise).

Cooler has to be moved? Say what?! Lol! I just got all the supplies today to do it at work Thursday, hopefully it's not that difficult to access the plugs on the tranny.

The SMG and Diff fluids are really expensive.

In addition, you would need to run the adaptations on the SMG after the fluid change.

Changing the diff fluid is a rather starightforward job.

from an independent shop I got a quote of $625 to change SMG fluid, Trans Fluid and Diff fluid. This included $400 labor to change diff seals.

Isn't smg fluid the trans fluid. Or do you mean something else.

hydraulic fluid for the SMG pump, then there's the fluid for the transmission itself (like any other car)

Sorry for the confusion between the SMG fluid and the transmission fluid. I am changing the trans fluid only, not the actual hyd fluid. I think it takes 3 lts of MTF-LT-2.

Hasan...do you have to run the adapation process when you drain and refill the tranmission only?

Did anyone replace the o-rings on the fill and drain plugs or did you guys just reuse them for both the diff and tranny?

And that's weird I haven't heard anyone run adaptation process the SMG after a fluid change. Do you mean like the process of holding down the paddles while moving and throw the car into natural that process? lol or actually hooking it up the diagnostic equipment and doing it from there?
