Engine feels rough when revving in neutral

The car is a 2008 with 40,000 miles. The other day, I noticed that the engine seems rough if I would lightly rev it in neutral. I didn't go crazy, never revved beyond say 2500-3000RPM. But when I do rev it, it seems to be rough. I can feel the coarseness through the peddels, especially the clutch. The car otherwise would drive fine. Any thoughts on if something is up? No lights, no warning, nothing else. Like I mentioned, it seems to drive fine otherwise.

Thanks in advance.

If it rattles, then its your flywheel.

If not, it can be anything like coils, plugs, MAFs, O2s. Get the car scanned for errors.

The first thing I would do is clean the MAFs with a CRC MAF cleaner. Your spark plugs are almost done as well, so I would also look into replacing them.

That is what i thought.. I am yet to see 6sp that does not have that rattle when revving in neutral 2000-3000RPM.
Save your money trying to change out coils, plugs, MAFs, O2s, etc for more important things in life like MODS

Ever figure this out? I was revving the M5 up, 2009 with 31k on the clock during a coldstart and it felt really coarse!

No, never did. But just this past weekend, the car developed a check engine with "increased emissions" message. I am also noticing some noises that I've not heard before. So I am going to take it in this week and have it checked out.

Stay tuned.
