Glad your ok....The damage looks to be repairable. Make sure to have the whole exhaust system checked, an impact that had enough force to knock off one can, bend the other one up and still have enough energy to bend the piping further toward the front of the car could have done significant damage to your headers or cats. Not trying to be an alarmest just worth having it checked out.

I hope you beat the driver with your rear section man, that is of course if it WASN'T an elderly individual.

Wow. Civic looks destroyed in comparison to the M. Goes to show the difference between Honda's and BMW's.

Glad you're ok. Make sure to have everything checked out well. If you find something later down the line it'll be hard to get the insurance company to pay up again. Any good body shop will thoroughly check it over the right way on the insurance company's tab. One that says it isn't required isn't a good shop.

Man,

I'm hating it for you, but as others have said glad everyone is okay which is most important and get a thorough inspection to get everything back the way it was. Good luck getting her back to good health.

Thanks all for well wishes. The other insurance has taken full responsibility and indicated they have plenty of coverage for this high end car. They kept referring to this car as high end, very high end or exclusive...so that's somewhat reassuring. They've also said there's plenty of medical and "pain and suffering" coverage, whatever that means. I haven't visited a doctor, but may as im getting a little stiffer and some other issues. I'm mostly bummed about being stiff as I'm on vacation this week with family and we have a very active vacation planned...mountain biking, cycling, and plenty of water activities...just not for me right now. Mostly going to sit and relax, plus move around a little bit to keep from stiffening up too much. I do have a few physicians in the family that'll be here soon, so I should be in good hands.

The description from their client was that she didn't just rear end me, but slammed into me. Quite true. I was stopped and she came up behind at the speed limit presumably. There was a 10-20' slide mark from her car's tires. So from say 45mph and 20' braking on smooth blacktop, she likely hit me at 20-30 mph? Her car didn't fair as well as the BMW, at least on the surface.

My exhaust pipes on the Dinan cans are crimped, plus further up the pipes they are bent. I am concerned about the full exhaust plus the headers condition. Also wonder if the motor was shifted on its mounts. I also won't accept non BMW parts as I didn't buy a BMW knockoff originally. I'm a stickler for details so it'll get done right. It is a bit of a bummer that I just put over $40k with the Dinan motor this past fall, so I'm definitely not ready to let this car go, unless they pull the motor and put it in another identical M5!

In the end, the other car didn't intend to hit me - it was an accident. Now it's just a matter of time and effort to get all put back together right.

'06 M5, took ED on Aug. 28th, 2006 in Munich!
Re-delivery on Oct. 20th, in Temple, TX.
VANOS killed M5 engine - totaled out 9/9/2011.
M5 currently in purgatory awaiting its fate...
1. either let go to insurance company and auctioned off for parts, OR...
2. purchased back and reborn with a Dinan stroker engine!
Option 2 please, DONE!
