Ipod Issue

Having an issue with my 08 e60 as it is not reading my ipod. I initially thought it was the wire that connects to the center concole as it was somehow unplugged. I then plugged it in and the iphone would charge but it is not recognized in the Idrive. Never had any issues with this car at all, so I am hoping nto something big. Thoughts?

Open the Trunk,
Open the driver side tail light cover, then unplug the carpet covering that side to reach behind your amp.
Past your amp ( digging in towards the front of the car ) you will encounter your TCU/Combox.
Past that you will see a small USB hub.it does not look like a traditional computer USB hub. But it is an aluminum block probably 3 inches by 2.5 inches.
It will have three ports
One on the bottom and 2 on the top.
Disconnect the hub while the ignition is ON (be gentle)
Then connect it back in after 3 seconds.
This should take care of your problem, unless there is something majorly wrong.
I used to do this at times and it fixed my issues.
I later figured it was my cable in the glove that was causing the problems.
Hope this helps

Wow awesome. I will try and give it a try this weekend. There should be a DIY thread on this with a pictorial view!

ASo I figured out the issue and I wa sshocked.... So I saw the post above and I was questioning before going through each steo if it was my Y cable and I did a quick switch wtih my friends beamer and got the same result. I then asked him to use his Iphone and WALAH, it was working again (on his y cable). I then put my y cable and tried again and it worked. I then resetted my iphone (and i noticed my sirius radio was running which apple said can cause an issue with car interfaces) and all was back to normal. Hopefully this helps someone out if it happens to them again. Thanks anyhow for all that helped.

Z33x - I have an 08 (so it may be different for different model years) but there is a Y cable in your center console below the plastic compartment. This Y cable has two ends, one end attaches to your Iphone and the other end has two wires (hence the "Y" cable name), one that is a usb cable that connects to the front of the plastic compartment and another end that looks like your standard stereo input. When you connect all three, this synches your iphone with your car and you should be able to listen to music when you hit the "AUX" button. Hope that helps, if you have any more questions let me know.

Gotcha that makes sense, but when you say the front of the plastic compartment...do you mean inside of the center console? I did find a little hole there that can be closed with a little plastic sliding door...I wonder if the previous owner accidently pushed it inside of the console. May have to take it apart to check. Mind snapping a pic with your phonecam of what youre talking about? If you dont mind =). Thanks!

Sure no problem. It is pretty evident inside of the conter console that there is a spot for the usb port and the stereo jack. I will be back in town on Sunday and will try and send you a shot of it....
