Duschanio,

Did you change the main crankshaft bearings when doing this? If not, how were those holding up? Looks like all that was changed was the connecting rod bearings. Just curious if all bottom end bearings should be changed while doing this. I have built several engines in my day and have always changed both sets of bearings.

You may want to read some of the E39 threads on bearings....the concensus is in that engine the rod bearings are the weakness....

When you Remove only the Oil Pan You can only change this .
When you want to change the crankshaft Bearings you Must come from the Top !

But there are no Problems with this ..

Can you ask him about main bearings on the S65? It seems that mains have been an issue for some on the S65 with early life failures. Speculation has circled around the bedplate design and possible bedplate deflection sufficient enough to result in oil film disruption on one end of the mains.

Im on original bearings with 220k on the s65
my e39 m5 has 185k original bearings.
I think a lot has to do with maintenance and over or excessive revving maybe.

Okay just to get the facts straight"
1) You changed just because of high kilos, not because of noises or anything?
2) Dont you need to rebore and cut the crank etc to do the bearing rod change?
3) My M6 2006 102000km is at bmw right now and I want to change the bearings but my engine has a clack clack noise, but still drives so hopefully no damage done inside
4) Is it a simple low cost procedure or are the rods very expensive?
5) How long did this take you, 1 day?

Thanks in advance.
