Looking for FUEL TANK BREATHER VALVE DIY

Well, I got my car back from the dealership after they determined that I have a leak in my fuel tank breather valve. I've seen DIY threads for older M5's replacing this, and was hoping to find one for an E60 so I can attempt this myself. Has anyone ever attempted this before? Anyone know of a DIY thread for it? My searching was unsuccessful.

I never heard of a breathe valve - where is that part located? Can you provide a realoem.com link?

Fuel tank breather valve most likely close to throttle body since excess fumes from fuel tank go to throttle body to be burned off. I think that is function of valve and members with more knowledge can chime in.
PIA to remove on E39 and i would think you would get CEL for sure with leaky unit allowing air into tank.

RealOEM.com * BMW E60 M5 FUEL TANK BREATHER VALVE

No 1 on the diagram. BMW TIS should have more details on removal. At the minimum, the plenum has to come out.

This is correct. It looks like the plenum has to come off and then you can access the breather valves. The symptoms aren't noticeable, but I'm guessing the fuel is running a little lean because of this. They determined that the leak was there by using smoke to detect it. It looks like there are two breather valves, and I'm not sure which one of mine actually has the leak.

I found a picture of the engine with the plenum removed, and I circled in red what I believe to be the breather valves. Is this right?

^^^ that looks very similar to the part (left and right) but i would still get BMW TIS for confirmation. BMW TIS is under $30 or so for 24hrs or so and worth the money to get it done right. I guess i was surprised since the part in E39 was closer to the firewall and not as easy to get out and looks like this is more accessible once the plenum is out in E60. We are assuming of course that is the right part but you will know right away once the plenum is out and you have the part on hand.

Good luck and post pics and feedback if you do get it done as DIY.
