Turned engine off....sat for a minute ....fired it back up. Lights still on, backed out of garage turned on P500, and then off again and blammo! No more lights!!! Drove around the block(driving lamp/bulb decided to go out on me)and all is good. Rock on!
Cool! Once mine went off, it stayed off. Hope the same for you! Definitely better than taking to the dealership to replace a part that isn't broken.

Thank you so much

I did this DIY and wanted to say thans everyone that replied and added to this post. I saved over a $1000 with this. I'm not sure weather I should post more pictures, but took some while doing this to show the air bag release hole, was confused on it for a short bit, and others. Here is a link for the pic ( good for a little bit)

A few more pictures would be helpful. Upload directly to the board, rather than hosting offsite

So I took my car in because it was showing the EDC malfunction light. Dealer ran the diagnostics and said I need to replace my Steering Angle Sensor. They wanted $1100 for parts and labor. I saw the DIY for cleaning the sensor before going with the dealer. I spent a saturday taking it apart and when i finally got to the disk and sensor they were SPOTLESS. and cleaned it up with some alcohol just to make sure. Put everything back together but I still have the EDC malfunction. Any ideas? Why would the dealer say I have a bad steering angle sensor. it looked perfectly fine.

Cleaning the "disk" repairs one common steering angle failure, but like any electronic device there are many other ways it can fail.

did you clean sensor and the disk? when I took my disk it looked clean till I held it at a angle. I tried dawn dish soap, but, had to use contact cleaner to get the crud off. one person said he had to do it twice. I also had dust keep trying to get into it while I was putting it together. I know it's a PITA, but, I'd try it again. Good luck,but, with the E60 it could be anything.

What I misunderstood.

I thought that 1091 was the airbag hold, but the hole to get to the airbag spring is under the steering wheel imag1092. Also if you look at the picture of my disk, I have sparkle stuff, as well as, the crud on it, which, came off after I cleaned. And yes, I didn't take a picture of it clean because I wasn't sure it was going to work. Sorry.

For those of you that have to replace your SZL, here are the steps to code it using DIS:

Diagnosis-> 5 series -> E60/E61 -> Right Green Arrow -> Control unit Functions -> Function selection -> Service Functions -> Chassis -> Steering-angle sensor -> Adjustment, steering-angle sensor -> Test Schedule -> Right Green Arrow

You'll then be guided through the steering angle sensor calibration process via on-screen instructions.

You may also need to code using NCS Expert to get the steering adjustment to work.

WoooHooo, just did it tonight and so far so good. I was getting the malfunction DSC and Flat Tire Monitor and some other warning..it was happening each time I drove the car when I took the first turn..
I drove it around a bunch and cranked the wheel side to side, no warnings yet....
Thanks again to an amazing forum...
