SMG Pump @ 27k, Red Cog 'O Death

Driving as usual until I pulled up to a stop light, RCD popped up stating a transmission malfunction, the car went into N and shut off. Pushed the on/off button 4 or 5 times before it would start so that I could get it out of the intersection. Luckily I was only a few miles to local dealer, limped it there and virtually dead sticked it into the service department. 2008 M5 with 27k, warranty expired on 3/13/12, SA assured me that they/BMW would goodwill it. I guess its the best of a bad situation. SMG pump.

On my way to the dealer the car would just pop into N then when I came to a stop it would shut off. X5 3.5d is not a bad loaner.

Updates soon.

Best of luck to you on the goodwill. If BMW does back down your looking at 5K to repair your SMG pump.

You are a few days outside of the expired warranty, but you've had a SMG issue in the recent past. Surely BMW will cover the repair again until its correct and problem free.

Sorry to hear OP hope everything works out for you.

Its funny to me how all these 2008+ M5s are biting the dust on their SMG pumps and clutches with such low mileage. Mean while many of us who have 06-07 havent had any problems and are at 55k+ miles trouble free. Not trying to thread jack just saying. Although many members recommend the new cars to be purchased.

I had a similar situation with my Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberria with the milage 45 miles past the 50k mark. It had a bad fuel pump and they happily did everything under goodwill. I am sure if your S.A was confident to tell you they would goodwill it, they will do just that. Happens more often than you think. Keep us updated and wish you the best.
