My VT2 Story
So as some of you know I have been planning on getting the ESS VT2-650 installed for a few months now so in November I made the call to Roman at ESS and asked when the production of the kit would be ready and he stated not for awhile but did say they did had one which they were almost finished with so with that I said I will take it I knew that only RPi had the VT2 kit installed on an M5 so not bad company to follow
The day arrived to drop the car with ESS and make a vacation of it as it would take a week for the install and tune. Left last Saturday, stayed the night in a hotel as I planned and then continued early the next day. A total of 13 hours later we dropped the car off Sunday morning with Roman who is a great guy, very friendly and understanding as I pulled him away from his family to meet me there and take the car in
A few pics of the place itself.
The build begins.
(more pics to be added once ESS email me them)
As the Dynojet was down for maintenance we had to use a MAHA dyno.
Here are the dyno numbers before and after the SC was added. Please disregard the VT1 in top corner as I think the operator just guessed which kit it was. For those who can't make out the numbers.
Before Mods: RPi headers, RPi Exhaust and ESS stage 2 tune = 430rwhp and 307ftlbs trq
After with SC VT2 install = 570rwhp and 400ftlbs trq

Not sure why the operator let off early at 7700rpm as redline on mine is 8600rpm and it seems the power was still climbing.
Pics of the car when I picked it up from the shop.

Pics of when I was leaving AZ and getting ready to leave the hotel.

I have to thank ESS for a top notch kit, this thing is really put together very well, they even shaved of the top of the logo on the manifold for a nice silver finish . The drive home was awesome, never drove 1000 miles in one day knowing I had so much power at my call haha.
The car drives like a normal M5 under daily driving conditions, I took notes on the way down and I managed 320 miles from a full tank of gas, on the way back I managed 323 so yes I picked up a minor amount, of course with your foot to the floor it will use more but I could not verify how much. The power is very linear and not a push you back in the seat feel which you would normally get from a turbo'd car, but it is very sneaky how the power comes on, for example joining a freeway I looked down as I merged into traffic and I was almost at 115mph the car just wants to go.
The only negative item I have is that at wide open throttle and going through the gears the car does slam hard into each gear and there is a thud, I guess there is no way around this.
For those who want vbox times and stats well they will have to wait as I had it hooked up but had not entered the code that the system requires , I know I am in the process of doing that tomorrow. Did I race anyone....yes I raced a C6 Z06 but I have to state up front that I was not the one who instigated it, he passed me and slowed down so I passed him then he pulled up next to me....you get the picture, I shifted down 3 gears to 4th turned M mode on and let him gun it first, after that I reeled him in and passed him in no time, I think I was almost 5 cars in front when I shut it down, they guy was nice and gave me the thumbs up but probably did not know what hit him. I also had 2 fly by ricers in BMWs which I refused to race.....kids these days have no respect.
I will hopefully be posting more pics tomorrow as Dan our local master photographer will be snapping a few for me
Hope everyone enjoys the pics (even if they are just iPhone pics ), hopefully I will post more info when I have it
