Map and Vanity lights having problems

I've searched but couldn't find any info on this particular issue...

My vanity and map lights have recently stopped working. The dome light functions normally. What it does is when you open and close a door, or manually turn on or off the dome light, the vanity or map lights (if switched "on") will flicker with light for a second then go off. It's not the bulbs and I pulled the light panel from the roof (by the sunroof controls) and all "appears" normal. I'm nearly convinced the problem is internal in the dome light assembly or some kind of short.

This was extremely inconvenient when my wife was trying to apply her f'n make up while I was drivng last night. All she could use was the dome light which made it "challenging" to drive. Not to mention the constant whining from my beautiful wife (in case she reads this). :hihi:
I hope someone knows what this is. I miss my map lights :sad3:

Thanks,
Eddie

Yeah that's a bargain for sure. But, I checked that rear light unit also, and it does the same funky thing the front (and the visor/vanity mirror) ones do. If the button is turned (pressed) on, shut the door, and viola the light turns on for a second and then goes off. They all do that whether you shut the door normally or very gently. The regular dome lights (the light in the center of the front and rear light unit) are functioning normally. It's seems more like a short or something similar.
If I knew for sure that replacing the front or rear unit would fix it, I would spend the money. It just seems so unlikely.
Thanks so much for trying to help.
I keep hoping someone will read this who has had the same issue with their interior lighting.

My M6 does not have any lights in the rear, so I can't investigate how the front lights relate to the rear lights.
The interior lights are connected to the CAN bus, so pressing the button sends a "button pressed" message on the CAN bus. The lighting control module sends back a CAN message to "turn on light". I don't know if the reading lights function in the same way. Even though the button and light are located next to each other, the problem could be caused by a module located far away ouich
