ESS SMG software

Has anybody done ESS SMG software??? S85 SMG Transmission Software - ESS Tuning | BMW Tuning Parts | BMW Racing, Tuning, Aftermarket, Performance Parts | Engine Power Chips | Performance Upgrades Chip

They claim that is allows you to Launch at 4100rpm. Is this software similar to what the Europeans get for their SMG? I was thinking it maybe safer to try this than to download and override the USversion with the European version of software like I have read about on the forum.

Just curious as to anybody's experience with this. Thanks

It is the Euro software.

Here's a long thread, but it should answer a lot of questions on this issue (as well as apprise readers to potential pitfalls): Reprogram Euro SMG software to US cars! (Faster shifts + 4k Launch Control) for free!

From what I gathered, but haven't confirmed, is that a couple people bricked their TCU, and at least one sent it back to ESS and got the ESS Flash done. What I don't know is if it cost them MORE than if they had just sent it without the problems. If it cost the same, then I'm probably going to give the flash a shot myself, knowing that plan 'B' is the ESS flash.

ESS Website shows $695, but I don't know if the guys that bricked their TCU had to pay more or not. That's what I would like to find out. If no more, then it is no risk, if you plan on sending in the TCU anyway.

I would definitely have it done if getting the SC kit! Sweet! You may ask them if that is included in the kit - I don't think it is, but you never know - could be part of the SC Flash. That will be sweet!

Sure I can ask if they can deduct a portion of the cost as I am having a reflash done for the kit but I know it's not part of the actual package deal.

The launch control is similar to the Euro version. The shift firmness increase is not.
