Euro SMG installed by....???

Oooo...ok, I see you have an '08 like I do. Who did you have install the Euro SMG software? Did you send your TCU out or take your beast somewhere? Do you know if it was done with an ICOM interface or just an ODB-II cable and a laptop??

VERY curious to know, since the '08 and newer cars are the ones that are being....."fickle".

Yeah, the first thing I did after I got it programmed for Euro SMG program was test out the Launch Mode and it went to 4000rpm, I was kinda in shock, I was real happy, It was like Santa came 2 months later.

Yes, in launch mode, once you let the lever go, it will pull through the gears shifting automatically at redline perfectly. 1st gear your wheels are just spinning and computers are basically shifting @ at the best time to get traction for 2nd gear. I don't care about the clutch wearing down, i can replace that my concern is the overall wear and tear on the SMG as a whole, pump, gearing, etc. Its highly addictive, my passengers wanted to do it again and I told them Summer 2012 lol

I only know that the SMG shifts on its own in Euro Launch Mode. I have not tried redlining the motor in S to see if it shifts on its own then, though I don't have a problem trying since I have got p.m's on that and curious myself.

I did Randy's SMG with an ICOM interface. I've done two 08 E60s (along with 2 other 06 E60s) and one 08 e63 with it so far. Allows me to make sure all the other modules are up to date with ISTA/P before proceeding.

Thanks for answering his question, Paul. I was about to send you an email to confirm that it was ICOM you used for the Euro SMG coding.

And thanks again for helping code my car! =]

Afraid of launching? I'm more worried about what the dealer will say if it sees that I have been Euro launching since I'm still under BMW's extended warranty.

Isn't the limit like 7 LCs in Europe before warranty is avoided? I actually was planning to try it this weekend, but never got an optimum opportunity in a safe area. The only times I have tried with the US spec LC are either late at night or at open, safe areas (i.e. the Marina airport during CCC).

I should make some gopro videos of launching though...or you can do that, Paul. You seem a bit more balls-y than I =P

Through ISTA-D, I have yet to find any obvious notifications as to the count of launch control, nor have I seen it in INPA. I have run ISTA-D on a member whom has launched a couple of times specifically looking to see what the diags had to say. I'll continue to dig around, but so far the only item would be be if programming (ISTA-P) were invoked on a coded car, it would recognize that the ZB number for the SMG was incorrect, and it would want to update it to the most recent US program (effectively overwriting the euro program). This is no guarantee and YMMV.

Ah, thanks, Paul.

Still a little worried about launching too many times. I thought that for US-spec'd M5's, BMW limited LC to 1500rpm and thus the dealer didn't really care really how many times you launched because it was pretty much a pointless launch and wouldn't hurt the tranny/clutch too much compared to the 4000rpm Euro LC.

But, I know I'll be doing it sometime in the near future...very near I'm sure

Curious to know if the RPM adjustment works or not.
I did it today and I adjusted the RPM for Euro Launch Control via the cruise control knob, it would go lower or higher by 100rpm each click down or upward. Pretty awesome, really helps get that perfect launch for the variable conditions you could be in!
