As we have seen the last few months coding has taken off! More and more people are offering windows up with remote, full bright angel eyes with headlights on, and more. Well here is the next step. Reflashing modules!
Euro smg software features:
-4k rpm launch control with auto shift at red line in S6
-Default S5 / D1 settings from cold start (US default S3/D3)
-Smoother / quicker shifts between gears
I didn't make a video however you can find several examples of it on youtube, here is one:
Here are the ZB numbers for the different SMG tunes from BMW:
M5 Euro
7840482 (ver 1)
7841399 (ver 2)
7842206 (ver 3 this is the one I used)
M5 US
7840483 (ver 1)
7841402 (ver 2)
7842208 (ver 3)
M6 Euro
7840484 (ver 1)
7841404 (ver 2)
7842210 (ver 3)
M6 US
7840485 (ver 1)
7841408 (ver 2)
7842214 (ver 3)
Technically you can take your car to the dealership and ask them to install software #ZB 7842206 (ver 3 euro software). They will have the file and equipment to do it, However they usually just update modules or follow the TIS telling them which US tunes to use.
What you will need to do this:
-K+DCAN USB Cable (I use
this one)
-BMW Standard Tools (This includes NCSExpert which is what everyone uses to code windows etc, however for updating/flashing we will use WinKFP which is also included in the install)
-Up to date Daten files (simply the latest ECU files from BMW)
I use WinKFP version 5.2.1 and Daten files V41 (Which is 100% BMW software)
All of these files can easily be found on the internet. Please do a search!
The M3forum has been doing this exact same process to install the stock CSL smg software on US Spec cars. Giving a very similar outcome of faster shifts / higher launch control. Here is a video showing a US spec e46 with CSL smg2 software that was programmed and videoed by myself. Also another cool feature the e46 m3 guys have figured out is how to add competition m track mode (MTM) to non CSL/Competition package cars.
Attached is a guide made by terraphantm on m3forum. You can use the exact same process however instead of using E46 files you need E60 files and instead of using the #ZB number for SMGII CSL use one of the above.
Besides already flashing many E46 M3's with different tunes I have also done Rnydyman M5 with the euro smg software who i'm sure will give you his thoughts!
Hope everyone finds this information useful!
