Mirror mount part question

My mirror broke off as others on here have done. I'm sure they all fail at the same place which is this aluminum mount. I was told that I have to buy a whole new mirror ($1000+) which I am hoping to avoid. I was also told I could not fix this. I had/have a plan to fix it, but when I took the entire mirror apart, this individual piece actually comes out and can be replaced. I've looked all over... it is not even listed as a part on realoem. It has the number 52264 on the underside. Does anyone know where I can find this aluminum mount, who I should call, where I should look? If not I will try to fix tomorrow I guess. Thanks

Mirrors going out of alignment has been more common than broken. Did that metal part break on its own, or did the mirror hit something?

I'm impressed by your disassembly work
If the clearance through the center of the broken part is not critical, you might try using a metal tube to reinforce it.

It broke on its own when I hit my garage. Other than the broken mount, the mirror is in great condition.

Disassembly is usually the easy part, I am more worried about my ability to perform reassembly. Yeah, the center is where the wires to the mirror pass through, otherwise this would have been pretty simple to fix. Yes, that is my plan. I walked around home depot for about an hour looking for something hollow that I could use (that would fit). I decided on using the sleeve part of a sleeve anchor. I will press fit this in place and hold everything together with JB Weld. It all has to be done inside the mount, because the outside articulates with other parts. Unless someone knows where to get one of these pieces... I guess this is what is about to go down.

Share pictures of your repair, it will be useful information for members (or at least me).

While you have everything apart, inspect how the mirror rotates and stops.
The motor for the folding mechanism can get out of sync to the mirror housing, so the mirror points slightly downward. I was able to correct this problem on my car by rotating the mirror toward the ground, and cycling the fold feature. I never completely disassembled the mirror to learn the root cause of the problem.

Fixed it.

When I get a chance, I will post pics of the repair and the inside of the mirror in a new thread titled "How to fix broken side mirror". That is unless my mirror flies off while driving down the freeway tomorrow, in which case you should look for the post titled "How to buy a new mirror and paint the side of your car".

Any progress? My driver's side mirror will not fold up. I don't even hear the motor trying to work. I was thinking of buying a used 36 non m5 mirror just to get the guts out as these mirrors are crazy expensive.

Thoughts?

Sorry, never got around to posting pics and DIY on how to fix the mirror. It worked perfect and have not had a minutes trouble out of it since I did it. I think I have the pics at home on my computer and will try to post how I did it over the next few days.

I did mine last night. I epoxied in a hallow concrete anchor and it seems really strong. The only issue is that i broke the star washer that holds the spring in place when i pressed it back on. I will have to find something to repair that now. Lol.

Yeah, I could have saved you that. I did not break mine, but when I impacted it back into place (using a hollow broom handle), I pushed it down too far so there was too much tension on the spring. So, I had to get it off very carefully so the washer didn't break from all of the fatigue/stress of taking it on and off. I started over and slowly got the correct amount of tension.
