This is a sequel to my previous threads on 900+ Hp of ///M Power and Launch of the world's first exclusive BMW M Division Dealership

Was able to do a side by side of the M5 with the X6M at the M showroom. They also had the M1 Hommage on display, together with a rare E30 M3 and M3 Sedan w Competition Package in Frozen Grey (BMW M3 Sedan : M3 Competition package)

The FG paint looks great on the M3. I like the competition wheels a lot too.. At an M event was an Frozen Grey M3 with competition wheels just like that.. looked nice in person. Also was another Frozen Grey M3 with gloss black M3 wheels, black chrome exhaust tips, and the carbon fiber ZCP package.. set it off really nice.

Thanks for posting this.. hopefully more M Dealerships in the US open.

Question though.. frozen grey is a metallic color. I cant't tell in the photos, is frozen black also metallic, like sapphire black?

Frozen Black will be like the Frozen Grey in your M5, e.g. a matte shine -- looks very cool and different effect from the 'liquid metal' look of other metallic colors

What I was told was no waxing needed for FG or FB, just wash with water. But if you put a clear bra / paint protection film for the inevitable stone chips, it will then look more like a normal metallic shine. What has your experience been with the Frozen Grey ?

I have Frozen Grey, as you know. It is based off of Space Grey and therefore metallic. Can you tell me if Frozen Black is based off of Sapphire Black? Is the Frozen Black metallic, like the Frozen Grey is?

About maintaining Frozen Grey paintwork:
-Washing procedure is only soap and water. It is crucial that the type of shampoo used has no wax polymer ingredient in it.
-The Frozen Grey is based off a Space Grey. Is simply has a special matte clear coat. You cannot use any "normal" (normal being products for gloss paintwork's) products on the paint or it will result of glossy patches. It acts the same as any other paint, besides rock chips are more obvious and scratches cannot be removed like so on glossy paintwork's.
-Swissvax is the only company who has brought matte paint care products to the market. These products are new, but they do work. The product line is called "Swissvax Opaque". It consists of a car shampoo, pre-cleaner, wax, quick detail spray. All of which are safe on the Frozen Grey paintwork. I personally have tried all of the above besides the pre-cleaner. I have also used a clay bar to remove the paint containment's (just like those that appear on normal glossy cars which cause the paintwork to feel gritty) and it showed great results. It is however important to follow Swissvax's directions exactly when using the products. Although these products has proven to show me great results, it cannot be said to provide the same results for Frozen Black.. it may actually harm the Frozen Black paintwork.

Thanks for the tips on care for these new Frozen shades. But it is scary if stone chips are more obvious and scratches cannot be easily removed .... What happens from stone chips from high speed highway driving ? Or going into the gravel on trackdays ? Or even just the normal tight car parking and people squeeze by ....

1. Keep a decent distance from other cars on the highway. Sometimes drivers on cell phones veer off into the shoulder and forcing me to make a quick lane chance to avoid the debris.. happens a lot here on Florida's I-95 (one of the most dangerous highways in the US). Of course sometimes you can't keep a distance say if you want to convince somebody in front to move over a lane. But trying to keep a distance when just crusing will help keep your paint from showing rock chips. Look into a clear bra for matte vehicles.. I am pretty sure there is one, and that will solve this problem. I will need to repaint my bumper in another ~6 moths (1 year from delivery). Maybe I will look into a matte clear bra myself.

2. I have not gotten one scratch on my car, thankfully. I never roll onto a gravel lot - ever. If you need to, I suggest moving through slowly and once you reach pavement move slowly for a few hundred feet so the gravel have time to leave the tire's tread. This is really being over cautious.. you can roll onto gravel and probably have no problem at all.

3. In parking lots I always park a distance away, next to nobody. I have not gotten one door ding either - thankfully. I do this with all of my cars, matte or gloss paintwork.

A huge accomplishment recently is that you CAN detail your paint work.. this is huge and a first brought to the market by the company I mentioned above.


BTW, there are clear bra/protective film's that turn gloss cars matte. They are 8mil thick. So I think with a little research you'll have no problem finding a clear bra/protective film for a matte paintwork vehicle.

Thats great. Likewise, I use Llumar protective film on my Interlagos Blue -- thank goodness

The NS Highway that connects Singapore to KL (and Sepang F1 circuit) is also notorious -- esp. trucks overtaking other trucks that just pop out in front of you ! Lets just say M5 brakes even though stock are not just for show ... Some hits are also inevitable -- had a bird strike once in the early hours ...

By gravel, was refering to the gravel in the runoff areas on the track. Went off in T15 on Sepang once, the Llumar took the brunt of the hits but shudder to think the impact on uncovered paintwork without it ... Wonder what is the impact of trackdays on the frozen paintwork if protective film is not used ....
