Although they are a couple of people that have done the E60 CIC retrofit overseas it hasn't been documented with pics. Hopefully this log will help those that are hesitant or not sure of whats need it for the retrofit.

I received most of the parts that i needed for the retrofit. Still waiting for a couple of parts that should be here on Friday. Looking at doing the installation, coding and programming sometime over the weekend with Patryk. Wanna thank R9ndy and Technic for all the help in getting the right part numbers.

For those interested in this retrofit, the main part numbers that you need regardless of you own pre-lci or lci are

61119185171 CIC HD Screen cable
61319167196 USB Port
61129196805 USB Port cable
51456976361 CIC Center trim
61136954526 CID CAN/power connector

Everything else is based on the year of your car and your wood trim. For those who own LCI cars you have less parts to buy than those with Pre-LCI cars.

If you have a LCI car the only parts you need to replace is the center trim and support bracket for the new idrive controller.

If you have a pre-lci be prepared to spend about $400-$600 for the lci conversion.

Total cost for for the retrofit is about $3000 give or take.

I got your PM but i was unable to reply due to my low post count. You can send me an email at nepl29 at Gmail. com

OP should post step-by-step instructions for his car.

i know it varies by model year / lci or not, but at least it would be a starting point.

Well, I just finish with the installation of the CIC and coding . Im super tired. Everything works GREAT!!! The coding session with Patryk was awesome. Got good and bad news, the bad news is for me since i was the first one to do the retrofit. Let just say the retrofit just got cheaper for everybody thats thinking about doing it.

Had a couple of issues with the installation.
1. To install the new idrive controller it requires to remove the whole armrest and do some cutting that i did not want to do.
2. To install the new center trim it requires a new shifter trim.
3. AC console is a bit smaller, will have to upgrade to a lci one, but its ok for now.

The good news is that the the current idrive controller works great with the CIC. In another words its not worth changing the trim just to be able to use the new controller. The only thing that the new idrive controller has on the old one is source presets built in to the new controller but you are able to program the shortcuts in the 1-8 presets. Everything else works the same.

If you have a CCC system(pre-lci) the only parts you have to get is the CIC trim and optional AC console(used). You can use everything else. No need to change to trim, no need to relocate the ashtray. Thats about $500 -$600 in savings.

LCI owners only need to change CIC trim, thats it.

Kinda pissed that im now stuck with quite a few parts that was not needed. Hopefully i can work out something with Garry@ Newport BMW to return them, i know i might get killed with the restocking fee.

I was also happy to find out that my Dension 500 works perfect

The Navigation FSC code was succesfully loaded. Navigation WORKS!!!! The only issue which was a miscommunication between me and Patryk because he thought i had a USA CIC but i had an European CIC, so i need the US map which he will send me via FTB on Monday. Its a 15gb download.

Quick question on this.

If someone in the USA buys the euro version of the CIC, what does it take to make it work here? Just new maps, re-coding, new activation codes..?

CID removed, getting ready to remove the M-ask unit.

M-ak unit with Audison Bitone processor controller.

Removing M-Ask unit

M-Ask trim removed

Getting ready to install CIC.

CIC install, its basically PLUG AND PLAY.

European FM radio( Before Coding)

Test fitting the CIC.

This where you have to cut if you want to fit the new controller, I dont recommend going that route.

As you can see a new shifter trim is needed because of the gap with the LCI Center trim.

Thats a great job you did man! You are truly the first person to take the plunge and retrofit the new CIC Nav/iDrive!! I am very impressed and glad that it can be done. I know I posed this question months ago and everyone just shot it down as undoable. Now that you've led the way, this is one mod I am willing to spend the time and money to do.

Seeing that this maybe something many others may attempt to do, if you could possible start a new thread with a complete writeup, I know Gustav could probably sticky this. Its well worth the effort! Thank you for figuring this out for the rest of us. You are the man!

Dension 500

Gap issue with AC console, Thats only because i have a pre-lci. LCI owners will not have this issue. Is not as bad as it looks, will replace it when i find a deal on a used one.

Ok, so I called my local dealership and these are the prices for the PN's you listed. Do you have the PN for the CIC and Screen? Am I right in assuming that it uses the same Nav screen as the current CCC system? Its the widescreen display right? I don't need a new one of those if I already have the CCC Navigation.

The CIC that they have listed that I had them pull up requires a $500 core exchange at $945.37. So thats $1445 without the core (no, they won't take our CCC as an exchange).

So what I'm seeing here is if you kept the original CCC iDrive control and just upgrade the CIC and fascia, then this upgrade can be done for less than $1700 plus programming. Not bad if you ask me. But please verify the PN for the CIC for me. I have 65-12-9-199-616.

Thanks!

Does all M5's come standard with Navigation?

#20 ·
Awesome write-up!

I do believe that navigation is standard on all 2006+ M5s.

I also believe M-ASK is standard as well.

I'm picking up a 2006 M5 this week and plan this as one of my first mods.

While I'm at it, I intend to swap out my wood trim w/ aluminum or get carbon fiber skins. Haven't made up my mind yet.

I was trying to locate the correct M-drive shifter trim on realoem, but when I pick an E60 LCI, there is no M5 model to pick from, so I went with the E60 non-LCI with a 2009/1 manufacturer date. Part number is 51168046107. I wonder if that is the right one?

#21 ·
If the navigation is standard then all M5 owners have CCC. M-ASK is for those that dont have Navigation. You dont have a LCI model, LCI is if you own a 2008 and up .

#29 ·
Im willing to travel and do the install:biggrin:. i'm available most weekends. I can even arrange a day to do 2-5 install in areas like SOCAL which i know has a lot of M5 owners.

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to introduce myself and say hello to all forum members interested in retrofitting the CIC Navigation.
I am supporting Nelson, Nigel and other guys doing this retrofit as we speak, so if you have any questions or would like to buy a retrofit kit just let me know.

One point of clarification. Is the new cic cd player also a DVD drive? Since I'm going from lci ccc, I'm giving up the DVD drive but gaining the hdd. Would I be able to watch a movie out of the single drive now instead? Or perhaps load music via a DVD instead? Does the cic system rip your music to mp3 or does have to preformated in mp3 ahead of time? Thanks!

#30 ·
Yes, the new CIC player is a DVD drive. You can watch movies. If you want to Patryk can coded so that your passengers are able to watch movies while you driving. You can rip music via the dvd slot or usb drive to the internal hard drive. It rips it to mp3 format.

#31 ·
This is wonderful news. Great thread. I am hoping it is still possible to use the original pre-LCI center console with the new I-drive controller. As pointed out by OP, it just needs a little cutting/modification, so the controller fits in the cut-out area.

#33 ·
You can't use the the pre-lci center with the new idrive controller. You will need an lci 2009 and up center console which for you M5 owners with expensive woods will run at least $400 alone with a discount on the center trim alone. You will also need to relocate the ashtray($100), buy the the trim that goes under the dvd drive($200-$300) new switches for the heated seat, etc($150). You will also new a bracket and trim for the new controller that must be ordered from an European dealer. IMHO, its not worth going thru all of this just to have the new controller..

I have 09 528 loaner eight now that has the new idrive controller but just the M-ask system. From what I can tell, the new idrive knob is easier to use than the old style. The shortcut buttons also are quicker to move around the menus. If anything, I would love to get the new controller and eventually replace the ccc nav with the cic hdd based unit. Perhaps as these cars matured, there will be more that are wrecked and the parts can be had in a junked car. Though I fear that the hdd would be damaged in an impact/collision. New is prob the way to go.

#39 ·
I got mines used. I only one person that got his new because the dealer told him that it came with the FSC codes, but it didnt.

#41 · (Edited)
Nelson,

Did you just source your kit from ebay or a wrecking yard?

Thanks for clarifying the HD screen. I thought I could reuse the CCC nav screen to save some $$$ but guess not.

The HD screen PN I have is 65-82-9-224-346

Btw, is the HD tuner standard now with the CIC system? I have HD radio now and would not give that up. I know you said you didn't care for the HD radio, but let me tell you, it sounds as good or better than a CD. MP3s don't compare to HD radio. Its that good when you hear it on the Individual High End system.

Thanks for confirming the PN's for me.

BTW, at wholesale pricing, the parts alone including the HD screen and the CIC unit is $3556 before tax (if applicable). $1000 is the core charge if you're not exchanging your old unit (which none of us have). I didn't have the PN for the iDrive controller so I didn't get a price for that yet. But it looks like the best way to retrofit is to purchase this off the secondary market and have Patryk program remotely.

#42 ·
I sourced mines from ebay.

The CIC and the HD screen p/n has been super seeded a couple of times, that why i didnt post the P/n's. Yes, the HD tuner is standard with the US CIC.

I think it might be awhile before we see US CIC available in the used market, Its only available on 2010 E60 models.

You can get the controller on ebay for around $140.

I guess what you can do is get a new US CIC, used display and controller and pay Patryk for the codes and remote coding.

#44 ·
I think $1000 to $1400 will be a good price for a used set.

#46 · (Edited)
Thats an european unit(no hd radio). The HD screen and controller is the same for both the E90 and E60 but the CIC is different. The easiest way to tell if its an European or North American unit is by the presets. The NA has 6 presets and the Europe has 8. Also the price is a lot. If you willing to settle for an European CIC i can get it for a lot cheaper but it wont be new.
