My wife and I are planning on relocating to Dallas before the new year. We've been there scouting areas to live but I wanted to get some feedback as to what to expect as far as emissions testing, noise ordinance laws & friendly / mod tolerant dealerships. My car is slightly modded, currently ASR intake and exhaust but will soon have Evosport headers and pulley.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Fasttoys pretty much nailed it, Classic BMW is the place in Dallas. If you are closer to Ft.Worth checkout AutoBahn Motors,
Kristy Turner is an excellent S.A. Good luck with your relocation plans

yeah you should be fine...Dallas is much more tolerant than I would assume that Miami would be. Its more tolerant here than it was for me when I lived in LA.

where in Dallas are you looking to move to?
Miami has no smog testing, I have seen people get away with quite a bit. Good to know I will be cool in Dallas. We're looking into the Park cities, and around where the office would be which is close to 75 and N. Central Expressway.
Any recommendations? We really don't know Dallas as well as Miami or LA. We lived in LA for close to 15 years.

You'll be fine until state inspection time if you don't have cats. Not a huge problem since we(dfwac) know people that know people who pass people

Yeah I would reccommend university park or highland park. I'm near this area as it is where I grew up. No smog here and it never is a problem with state inspection. You can always manage a way to pass. If you want to look in these areas look into the area west of central expressway and nw highway. Central and 75 is the same freeway

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. If you're suggesting that residents of HP/UP don't have to pass an emissions test for their inspection, that's incorrect. Every vehicle registered in Dallas county (and most of the surrounding counties, incl. Collin where Classic BMW is located) must pass an emissions test that includes a visual inspection to make sure all of the required components are there, and OBDII read, and a tailpipe sniff*.

Emissions testing is statewide. I think he may have meant smog laws as tough as California or just that there is not smog(like LA) here. Regardless of taking primary cats off with aftermarket cats, secondary cats will be able to pass emissions.
