Exclamation Just got hit by RED COG of ***** - Question

For the last two days my car did not want to start easily. It seemed the car was in gear, but the shift handle showed it was in N. After a couple of pushes of the start button and a couple of shimmys in and ouot of gear, it would fire up. I was going to lunch with a vendor and it did it again. I start rolling and 1/2 a mile into my trip the Red Cog shows up - it states limited driveability, but really no driveability. I shifted into N then the yellow cog shows up and the car still does not move. So I shut the engine off to reset the car and try to restart, but nothing. It states it's in N, but it won't turn on. Called Roadside Assistance, they're on the way.

What can I expect the dealer to tell me? I hope they actually change a component instead of just telling me it's another software issue or a low battery like they did with the yellow cog.

It sounds like SMG issue or you need a new starter! Best of luck!

With 42,000 miles I'm still under warranty. Thank God for that

LOL, Ashok. I feel like the utmost expert in the field of red cogs has responded to my post. You certainly have the most experience in these things and when it popped up today I thought of you. You're famous, man.

My birthday is in 3 weeks, so at this point all I hope is that I have my car back by then.

This is the main reason I am having doubts about buying another M5 (especially the new F10). I think I'll wait until at least the second year of production... or buy the next generation Alpina B5 instead
