So heres the deal my wife has an 08 M5 and we were considering the X5 M, But I want to hear some opinions, do you think the M5 is worth trading for the X5 M?.....Or do I wait for the next gen M5.......

Just wondering if anyone on the board has purchased the X5 M or if anyone has driven one? Some feedback would be great....

We have a X5 4.8 sport and an M5. You have a Cayenne Turbo and a M5.

I drove the X5M yesterday and it is awesome to drive (for a SAV). If you could get a 3rd row seat (a requirement of my wife) I would have ordered one yesterday, but no third row.

I would not trade my 06 M5 for the X5M - as you already have the SAV covered with the Cayenne Turbo. The M5 does not have the utility but is still much nicer to drive, faster and very functional and if you need the utility, simply drive the Cayenne Turbo.

Now if the 05 Cayenne Turbo is getting long in the tooth for you - that would be a good trade - you will get a great SAV for a great SAV. You will not be disappointed with the X5M - it is fast, has great exhaust sound, has very cool paddle shifters (complete with throttle blips on downshifts like your M5) and tons of utility. Fully loaded it is about $15k less than a comparably equipped new Cayenne Turbo. However if money is no object I would get a new Cayenne Turbo S and pay the extra $35K +/-.

Good luck with your decision.

That sucks about the 3rd row! How did you find this out? I still don't see it on the website!

I have to disagree with the above post. I recently had an extended test drive in the X5 M, and found it not lacking in drivability at all. I have an 2008 M5, and am ordering one of these to replace my M5 in April. It has a fantastic drive, great engine (although NA would have been nice to high rev), loads of luxury (will get the full leather interior) and XDrive.

The only negative is no Alcantara headliner. Petty I know, but I love the Alcantara in my M5.

Actually the Cayenne was my wife's SAV and we were going to trade it in for the 08 M5 but when I went to get a quote on the trade in for the Cayenne Turbo it was very very low, so low that we just kept it and I use it now around town. I bought the Cayenne about a 2 years ago when we had our first child and I figured at the time it was the best SAV for us. Then the Cayenne ran out of warranty last year and it had about 65,000 miles, and I didnt feel comfortable putting my wife and son on the road with a car that may have mechanical issues, which it started to have.

So we went to the dealer to either get a Merc GL 450 or BMW X5 4.8. She felt the GL was way to big and she preferred the X5 but wasn't crazy about it (lack of power). Your probably wondering why not get a new Cayenne Turbo, the leases was horrible. So to make a long story short the dealer offered me a loaded M5 for the same lease price as the X5 and my wife loved my 06 M5. So far the M5 has proven to be great even with a baby and its far more comfortable then the Cayenne and provides just as much space, only issue we have is its harder to load and unload the baby out of the car seat since the M5 is lower. Our M5 lease finishes in about 10 months and the dealer offered me a great deal to trade out of the M5 into the new X5 M, which is why I was considering the X5 M but Im not blown away by the styling and I dont mind waiting for the new M5. Which is why I wanted to get some feedback, spoke to a few of my car nut buddies last night and they all said to wait for the new M5.

I can see why you would consider the trade for your wife - the utility of the X for everyday life with kids is much better than the M5. Loading and unloading kids and groceries are much easier in the X5. Your wife would not be disappointed with the X5M and you can always get the next M5 in future if the need arises.

GLW your decision.

Just find a way to keep the M5 and also own a X5M. I had both a E39 M5 and a X5 4.8 and it was the best of both worlds. Get two radar detectors two.
