Can key remote be recharged?

I know from previous bmws ive owned that the key/remote is recharged when its in the ignition and therefire requires no replacement of batteries, however my car keeps telling me that when i use the key entry and start that the batteries are low. Does putting it in the ignition slot charge the batteries or do the batteries need to be changed? Thanks in advance for any advice.

If you have comfort access it cannot be recharged it's simply a replaceable battery.

If you do not have comfort access, then it is a rechargeable remote.

Pop the battery cover on your key fob and change the batteries. Some keys recharge but I do not believe the M5 does, maybe only the 7 series does. Maybe none do that anymore i'm not sure but you can change the batteries yourself. Turn the key over and its the door w/o the writing & bmw roundel on it.

There are two batteries on the key fob if you have comfort access. As mentioned, one is replaceable by removing the back cover the other is recharged when you put the key in the ignition. I normally stick my key in the ignition when I take the car on a roadtrip or when I know that I will be in the car for over an hour.

Interesting...

So I would imagine the replaceable one is the battery for the remote unlocking and CA transmitter while the rechargeable battery keeps the fob memory? Does the fob have a memory? I know that my keyfob didn't unlock the car or let it start without the replaceable battery. I tried it

I cannot figure out how to open the fob and get to the battery. Can someone describe how to pry open the "door" mentioned above?

Thanks.
