Transmission failure or just a failure....

Hello Guys,

Just came back for a big event of about 100.000 people and had a bit of a shock in some way.
I was standing in heavy traffic not moving a inch. I was just about to get a bit ( think about a inch or two ) further. In 1st gear a tiny bit up hill. Thats when I got the warning of transmission failure. I turned off the car because we weren't moving anymore for AGAIN an half hour.

Turned on the car again, nothing wrong anymore. Been in heavy traffic for another 2 hours no reports or warnings anymore.
The next day I drove about 300 km (aprox 100 miles) and again no warnings no engine failure and no power loss.

Was this just a system failure or do I need to be worried.

My car is a 05 M5 e60 with 50.000 km ( about 32000 miles ) in great condition and always treated right.

I'd figure out what codes they were. Personally I think it might have been an SMG pump fail.

That's generally what they are.

I was parked once and went to start the car and got a RCOD saying something was wrong (car wouldn't shift out of 1st into neutral was the issue) I press the start/stop button again and it started up like nothing happened.

Took it to the dealer and SMG pump was gone.

I only got a warning on the Idrive menu, maybe I missed the RCOD.

I had no problems putting it in gear or what so ever, the next day nothing sounded wrong and just drove alot without a problem.

How could I check if its the SMG pump and if it is how much will it cost me?

Isn't weird that everything seems okey know?

Sounds like a overheat of the clutch to me but it will have logged it in the ecu so a quick plug in will show what it was.

That happened to me about 2 months back. Then, about 2 weeks ago it happened again randomly. A few days later, 1 more time. I took it to the dealership and they replaced the clutch and flywheel.

Hopefully that isn't the case with your car. If you are under warranty, definitely have it checked out and taken care of.

No nothing seemed odd in any way. Didnt hear anything and no power loss, thats why I dont really know what the problems is.
Hopefully just a false warning.

ruddm5 - you sure you don't still have warranty? Good until 50k miles. I'm not sure how many months warranty is good for but my late '06 is good until mid-2010.

Rear-end noise might just be diff fluid or require a Dinan differential
