When I started to read your post I became infuriated, thinking you were talking about me, ha. That was until I read about the part about the blue font, ha.

Hello people,

I will be getting my 2009 E60 M5 soon, and I wanted to know if I have to do a tyre burn-out on a cold start every morning..... you know? To get my tyres up to "operating temperature"?

I say put the car on fire! That way, the heat around the engine will bring it up to temperature alot faster than any other technique. trust me

Yes of course you do, the only drawback is the mess the burn-out fluid leaves in your driveway.

It has been fun, but perhaps before we move on, we should note that BMW may have been listening.
Their latest measures to bring efficiency to driving without killing the fun will include pre-start oils and water heating using house current. This will mean you can get in a drive off in an already warmed-through vehicle.

Not a totally new idea, I used to keep the sump/oil pan of my Flintstonemobile "warm" with a kerosene heater, and my old Rover 2000 actually had an electric immersion heater inset into the engine block.

I believe some countries including Scandinavia and Canada had (have?) the option of aftermarket gasoline burning devices to warm the engine, although that was probably to ensure the heater worked well from the off.
