Congrates.

When I spoke to the Dinan rep at my dealership, he suggested I ship my car to Dinan if I wanted a stroker.

He said they would more equipped to test and tune.

I am correct that the stock headers are used with the stroker
and they add the Dinan midpipe to allow it to breathe?

You are lucky to have such qualified techs at the dealership. Also, lucky to have the stroker.

A Dinan Stroker in Hong Kong? Congratulations!

Do you ship the engine to Dinan or do they send a mechanic to you?

for overseas stroker conversion!

@ Streetking. You're the MAN. Very wise choice. BMW can't do this anymore over CAFE regulations, but this should be the new M5 engine

@ Flyguy. I am a big pro of taking out subframes on many cars for jobs like this. In fact, even the E28 and E34 M5 benefit from this. The V8 is virtually impossible to work on for some jobs too, and even on E30's I pull the subframe off for certain jobs. In the factory, the engine and trans are fitted in exactly the same way as depicted above, which is also the reason why std E39 and E60 M5 manifolds are so much viable for improvement ( the factory can't fit the headers after fitting the engine out of time /cost aspect, so the manifolds are OEM not in their ideal design for the sake of production) . Also, the other way of removing the engine is through the engine bay / hood area, which is much more difficult because:

1) danger of damaging the engine bay/bulkhead etc
2) Engine and box must be tilted almost 45 degrees, which is something you want to avoid with the complicated engines.
3) hood must be removed, and with the E60, its hard to put back correctly. Many a time, I have seen the hood/headlight area not coming along nicely anymore after the hood has been removed and retrofitted. Its not easy at all to adjust this properly, and it takes much more time all in all then removing the subframe and its surroundings
4) when putting the engine BACK, its much easier to move against gravity ( sounds strange!) rather than having a hoist that 'drops' the engine and box back into the car. If something would go wrong, a 20K engine falls through the bay of a 80k car. If something goes wrong when hoisting upwards , it simply slides back into the place it was when you started

it should also be noted, on engine swap scenarios, its always preferable to keep the engine and box as a unit, rather than separating them and putting it back together with the engine insitu
