I'd say it wasn't opened up early enough and was treated with 'kid gloves' and has glazed the bores, oh well just add the oil, its not worth 'opening' the motor to recify.

One caviate to do with the running in period, its not just the engine thats 'running' in, in the 1st 100 miles the most important thing from a safety point of view is go steady on the brakes and tyres, brakes have a galvanised layer on them that needs to be gentally removed and then the pads need to bed in and coat the discs, 1st 50 miles go really gental then do 10 or so medium to hard braking (not stops!!) from different speeds letting the brakes cool for a couple of miles between... just avoid coming to a complete stop as it will heat soak the pads and discs in one spot and warp the brakes. The tyres/tires need to be treated with great respect in the first 100 miles specially accellerating out of junctions or around corners as you could spin out due to release agents on the tyres specially in the rain!! plus they need to be heat cycled to to perform to their best .The dif, clutch/flywheel and gearbox need to be beded in, avoid high speed runs!!

Manufactures and insurers like long run in periods so you get used to your new performance gentally and learn the car and hopefully some of the showing off will have melted away by the time you can floor it!!??

Its a balancing act, just use your head!

Jay

SW,

Curious as to why you removed the headers. Did Dinan tell you needed to? I would think that a set of good flowing headers would very well with the stroker...

Perhaps the tune would not account for it. I know they can do a custom tune on their software to account for the cel. It was offered to me. I think Dinan does not want to turn off the cel and risk improper
AF.

I removed his uneven length long tube headers and installed a set from Dinan that are modified stock even length headers with primary catalyst removed. SW knows more about the numbers but it was said by Dinan to be a beneficial change

Just heard from my SA, Tim, that the engine is in and running. It just has to be remapped and the exhaust put on, and I should be able to pick her up tomorrow! I can't wait. One other pic of the two engines:

Well at 5.0 liters I'm sure he was getting around 13MPG, so (5.7/5.0)*13=14.8 I think he's got a shot at breaking 15 MPG...
