BMW Lease Rates are pretty good now on 10's

2010 BMW M5 Sedan
24 Month – Residual 59% of MSRP – .00175 Base Rate
36 Month – Residual 55% of MSRP – .00175 Base Rate
48 Month – Residual 33% of MSRP – .00260 Base Rate
60 Month – Residual 26% of MSRP – .00260 Base Rate

Your payment was like mine but my 08 is cost me 1070/month 36months/10k miles per year.

Use the numbers above to get your best payment.

Your dealer is giving you crazy numbers if he wants you to pay the same as on 06 but for 3 years now!

A) you should absolutely be able to get a better deal than you had 2 years ago. you don't even want to know what my deal was during the dark days of february 08, but suffice it to say it was less than any 550 or m3 i could have gotten. yes, residuals have worsened but in the case of the m5 they were bumped up massively late last year. so, probably, we are at the same place we were 2 years ago. money factors are about the same. also, selling prices have been soft (apparently there is 5k of trunk money in the 09 m5s right now?!?!). i "paid" (really leased) 83.5k for a 98k car in february.

B) the price of these cars has gone up a bit. the same car as mine in an 09 stickers for 101k

C) while i believe philippe and think he is a good person to work with, i don't exactly understand why an 09 would be cheaper. from the numbers i've seen, the residuals and money factors for the 09 are way worse than those for the 10. only a massive selling price discount could possible overcome that. i guess i need to do a little more research on this.

D) i think buying one of these cars is crazy, even if it's used. the cost per year of a typical pretty-much-always-subsidized m5 lease is about as low as you're going to get it, when you consider extended warranty costs and rapid depreciation of these cars, especially when they get a little bit long in the tooth.

Can someone translate these residuals ?
I really want to trade in my 07 M5 47000 mlies, and get into an 09 or 10 . And if i keep my car , then i am going to purchase both the extended service and mechanical.
But what if i don't?
Am i better off leasing or financing an 2010?

cars.com does a pretty good job of explaining the numbers. From what I gather from previous experience, your lease will be based on the non-residual amount divided by the number of months. So the first set of numbers there:

24 Month – Residual 59% of MSRP – .00175 Base Rate
Assuming an MSRP of $100k, lease will be based on 41% ($41k) divided by 12 months.

In this case, the 36 month deal is the best way to go, as you would be spreading $45k over 36 months versus $41k over 24 months (again based on assumed $100k MSRP). Your actual payment will include tax and money factor, which will increase the payment roughly by 10%.

Simply multiply the money factor by 2400 to get the effective interest rate.

Jerry

I sold my 2006 M5 and got these two cars:

2010 Prius for DD and 2008 CLK Black series for the weekends.

The Prius is a great daily driver that is enjoyable to drive in a different way. It really gets 50 MPG combined! If I really try to maximize, I can get 70 + MPG!
