While scanning the E60.net forums, I also noted that the Dension supports rear-view camera, Ipod video, and A2DP bluetooth audio streaming (turns the car stereo into a pair of bluetooth headphones for music). Of course, the extra options are $200 for the Bluetooth utility, and another $200 for the video stuff.... All in, you are looking around a ~1000.

I'm picking up the Gateway 500... I'll put up some install pics, and let you guys know how it goes.

Tried the Dension 500 Random function a few times. It has two basic modes: "Random All" and "Random Directory". To access the random function you have to start playing a track - how you navigated there determines how the Random function works.

1. Random All: Seems to randomly play, selecting from every song on the iPod. The display shows the random track sequence (what was played, what tracks are coming next, etc.). It seems to work fine, randomly selecting from 40GB of music on my iPod.

2. Random Directory: Randomizes the directory you are in, so its function depends on whether you are in playlists, albums, artists, etc. seems to work fine.

Thanks for the update. Havent used the factory option in years, but if I remember correctly it would only randomize the first few songs and then the rest would just play in order. The only way to truly get a random selection was to create a playlist with random songs and then play that.
