I need the new Idrive.. (CIC)

Tried the new Idrive today in a 7 series. OMG... Being a technology dude it just blew me away at how fast and new it felt. I got back into beast and felt like I was using DOS!!! I also heard that all new E60 M5s (2010) are coming with the new Idrive. There is a $64k difference between my car with only (14,000km) and a new 2010 model. There has to be an upgrade path. This is abosulte "Tom F'ery" ...

I need the new Idrive...

Anyone heard of a possible upgrade path? I know BMW has made last model year upgrades like this in the past with the e39.. was their an upgrade kit provided?

My M is an investment in my life and I sometimes feel like BMW just loves to screw the previous owners without an option to get the good new toys in the name of selling new vehicles. Anyhow before I rant any longer I am wondering what the chances of upgrading to the new CIC IDrive will be.

Thoughts anyone?

Trust me i feel your pain.. I bought an 09' 335i which i had for 4 weeks and then i drove the E60 M5 and fell in love.. I traded in my 4 week old car for 06' M5 and quickly realized it had a windows 98 like I drive compared to the new 09'.. The new idrive is MUCH MUCH nicer.. Its fast.. Menu's are 10x easier to navigate.. the Navigation has much more resolution and can search with more parameters.. Id swap Idrives if could as well.. I have been told it can be done.. I just dont know 100% for sure though either.. Im interested to see who knows for sure..

Everything is possible if you are wiling to pay for it, and I am sure this will be an expensive one. The tech and CPU behind screen is totally new (quicker, 3D maps, Web interface etc) and of course the old iDrive knob would have to be replaced with the new interface...

Not impossible but expensive operation I am sure. Not even sure every dealer would be up for the job.

But let us know if you manage

I haven't looked at my idrive version but my car is an 06 and the idrive is soooo slow especially when trying to scroll through the list of artists from the iPod. Can I just get an update that speeds things up a bit and maybe removes the stupid force feedback nonsense?

You should be able to as the latest version does remove the force feedback feature.

I heard that you can get an update, but need to push for it a bit if you are still covered by the BMW service program. I have booked my appointment on may 5th.. we will see.

No dealer is up for the job. No one has done this conversion.
New parts alone will be at least $4k.

Joe, let me know how this goes. If you are able to push for the upgrade I'm doing it next!
