The difference M5 E60 vs M3 CSL is way bigger then I would have expected, 23 seconds is quite a lot, specially when you think that the M5 has 507 hp, vs the CSL´s 360 hp.
Yes, the CSL is way lighter, but I think it has more to do with the humidity, temperature and so on, not only the weight.
7:52 min for the M5 E60 is fast, very very fast for 4000+ lbs car.
I'm glad you brought up the difference.
Because then I'm surprised the 7:52 min of the e60 M5 (500 hp) didn't better the 7:50 min of the X5 LM (700 hp) (assuming the weight of the X5 LM has to weight as least 5095 lbs which is the weight of the X5 4.8is and assuming the same driver).

I am sure that this mighty X5 LM didn´t weigh 5000++ lbs, it was a concept car and not a normal X5 with only a big engine.
Those laptimes are only for GENERAL comparisons between cars and they are ROUGHLY accurate at best. The standard deviation for a laptime of any given car driven by a different driver (even by the SAME driver) can easily be by +/- 2% for such a long track. And if one factors in the weather, road condition, age/condition of the vehicle, etc., the difference can even be greater. Unless the laptimes can be STANDARDIZED and AVERAGED for, let's say, ten laps by the same driver who is also VERY familiar with the tested vehicle, we should not worry about those few seconds at all.

The actually lap times is not the issue. Its quite obvious that there are so many factors that affect a particular lap time. But that is not what's being questioned.
The confirmation/verification of a particular lap time is.
There is no other place (googled) that states the 7:52 min lap time of the e60 M5 besides that one website. If anyone can provide more info, please do.

These probably aren't very reliable sources, but it goes to show that this isn't just a time heard about on M5Board -- apparently a bunch of people have heard of a 7:52 M5 lap.

I'd like nothing better then that to be possible. I think if it was true BMW would use it, especially when the CTS-V was the first sedan to cross the 7 minute mark with a 7:59 time?
Track times between the M5 and CTS-V show the CTS to be a hair quicker, yet on the ring the M5 is 7 seconds faster?
Like I said I'd like nothing better but this seems a bit hard to digest.

That video link shows the 700hp Le Mans X5, perhaps some mistook it for the M5 somehow

As I stated earlier:
"not including forums"
Its obvious those forums are quoting the same source.
For the record, I would love for that 7:52 lap time to be true, but I want some official verification of that source.
