Lazy Man's Concealed V1

I wanted to put my V1 concealed display in my pop-out ashtray, but I just couldn't figure out how to take it out without having to rip apart the entire dash.

I wanted to just be able to tuck wires/re-crimp them like I did on my old M3 without taking much, if any apart.

So, I just left the concealed display in the little coin holder area in the car. (I have the V1 plugged into the cig lighter below the passenger portion of the dash and I'll be hardwiring it this w/e there). I just bought the ultra-thin phone cord and tucked the wire from there to this area.

I decided to make a plate for it just to flush it out and make it look a little better. The plate is made from one of those plastic binder dividers, scissors and chrome spray paint, lol.

Here's my first try, I'll be trying to make a better one soon.

Got any better ideas for me?

aznronin -- do you like it there? I'm debating between there and on the left side of the dash that way I won't have to look all the way down below the gauges. Would you recommend having it there where you have it?

its great there. i can read all the gauges clearly, with the volume down or off the light and blinking catches my eyes without it being a hazard. on my picture it looks like it blocks the view of the temp guage but i dosent at all its just the angle.

Perfect, thanks. Is the cord a little bit of an eye sore? Where do you have it tucked into?

i dont notice the cord at all. if it bothers you then youll have to take off the dash and you can tuck it in.

I have mine on the far left since I'm left-handed (when i need to hit the "mute" botton). It slightly blocked the gas gauge(only last 1/4 to empty).

thanks, but I don't like to have anything obstructing the gauges... plus, I want the button to be easy to reach and I like that I can just open the ashtray to cover up the display...

For being made out of binder dividers, that doesn't look bad at all. I was easily able to get out my ashtray in M6 by pushing it in then popping it out.

V1 install + Remote Kit

If you ever want to change it up a little bit you could get a piece of sheet metal or aluminum, some shears, sand paper, and maybe some square shaped objects to bend it over and fabricate a new cover. You could also order some carbon fiber material to lay over this piece.

Thanks man!

I wish I could get the damn ashtray portion out. I just have that cubby there, I don't know why BMW took out the flip up portion for 08.
