Hi just joined the forum to find out wht people think I should buy? Over the past 4 years I ve owned a 530d with full Schnitzer conversion, then a 535d Sport with DMS Remap and Carbon Airfilter, and now a 650 with remap. Which is not as good as my old 535d!
I don't know what to buy? Was thinking E60 M5, but don't want to get shown up by tuned 335i. But then how can your rule out 335d with a bit of tuning? Let me know what you think I have budget of £40k so should get 2007 M5 on 2007 335i/d and have money left for tweeking!

Definitely the M5!

I can't imagine any tuned 335i coming close to the performance of this car. I used to frequent 3 series forums when I had an E90 and at the extremes of performance, I saw a few 335 owners with breakdowns.

If you dont like making mistakes, just get the M5.

When you buy the 335, you'll be asking yourself why you did not buy the M5 and try to find ways to justify the 335 with Mods.

When you buy the M5, you bought the best and you'll be satisfied each time you see a 335.

If the M5 is out of reach financially, get an M3. :byebye:

My wife has the 07 335I and I have the e60 M5

Both are remarkable cars, but the M5 is in a league of its own. Both the room, power, drivetrain and suspension sophistication. We haven't raced much...just a little playing cat and mouse from a rolling start recently and I was surprised how well the 335I hung in from around 20 to 60. Of course, I am not the best with the M5 yet in S mode, so that might have been part of the problem.

This review summed it up quite nicely: 2008 BMW 5-Series Review - E60 M5 driving impression from an E90 335i owner -

I do wish you luck with your decision.

For more info on the M5 Engine I recommend:

You are not buying a car when you buy the M5, you are buying an engine that just happens to have a 5 series body wrapped around it.

That's a nice review from a regular guy. But being that he already saw Top Gear's review, I think a lot of it is either sub or conciously restated. "The M5 is too much car for me" kinda sums up the reviewer. The M5 is too much car for the majority of the population, but not enough car for the rest of us. It's never enough....

E60 M5 Here I come!

Just recived settlement figure on my 6 series. I will begin the search next week, going to do a few modifications that where kindly suggested. Going to spend approx £30 - 40K so if anyone wants to sell let me know. If not then i think i will purchase from a main dealer for piece of mind.

Thanks for all who have contributed and i will post pictures as soon as possible.
