unusual looking stock exhaust
Hey guys, was looking at this approved 06 m5 from a bmw garage and noticed the exhausts were rather large. We test drove the car and on start up it sounded a bit louder than other e60 m5s ive test driven.

Heres a pic of the m5 can someone try and identify what kind of exhaust it is, to me it looks larger than the normal stock e60 exhaust tips but maybe im wrong

I'm pretty sure that's a Borla exhaust on the Interlagos one. Borla and Corsa both taper between tips and cans except the Corsa is beveled on the bottom (slanted) a la Supersprint but a little more so. These tips are straight like Stock, Dinan, Eisen, Meist.

Or it could be a TUBI system. Definitely not stock. Try and take a peek from underneath the car at the cans and you will be able to tell what brand they are.

hmm...the interlagos blue one is an approved car from a bmw garage, do you think i should tell them that its not a stock exhaust as it might affect the warranty. Would they still sell the car knowing it has an aftermarket exhaust on it ?

+1. I guess Tubi as well. The double-walled tips look like Tubi.

crawl under the car and look at the cans, they will likely have a manufacturer name on them

oh thanks guys i bought the car today and its absolutely awesome. the exhausts are as loud as hell on cold start but quieten down once they are warmed up. i managed to crawl underneath the car and what do you know, you experts were right they are tubi exhausts!

now all i need to know is how can i tell if they are the quiet tubi's or the loud rumoure exhausts, they certaintly dont sound quiet when you start it up!

more importantly perhaps will this tubi exhaust give me any extra bhp, if so how much? cheers guys

Search the youtube for tubi exhaust video. If you have the sound meter, the loud version (RUMORE) should read around...

Idle: 97dBA
At 5600 RPM: 107 dBA
At 7500 RPM (Peak): 117-119dBA

or give Tubi dealer a call, they may be able to help you identify based on SN# or some sort.

I haven't seen any independent pre/post dyno on tubi exhaust, but definitely save you some money because brand new tubi run $3200-$3400.
