Why do you want to do that? Only reason I can think of is if you stole it and you didn't want it to be found...

I would like to disconnect mine too. Mine has a Japanese maps in it which is no use in New Zealand. I will be listening to the radio, Sat nav off, and across the speaker will come "RAILWAY CROSSING AHEAD". Nothing like the sudden warning and makes your heart jump till you realise, of course, there is no railway near me; Sat Nav still thinks I am in Japan.

Anyway, how do you disconnect it?

Eject the Sat Nav DVD? Wouldn't that do the trick?

How do you think GPS works?

People, and the media, do a really bad job at understanding this...

The GPS satellite system simply sends out coded signals. Period.

THe GPS receiver in the car can use those signals to determine the precise location (lat, long and elevation) of the receiver on the planet surface. If there is a map disc, the receiver can 'place' the car on the map in a graphical display.

1. The satellites CANNOT track the car.
2. The GPS in the car would need to either store GPS data (positon, speed) or transmit that information via cellular or radio transmission.

You should know that the car likely stores speed and other values obtained without GPS in the event of a crash.

I ran across a design for a local GPS jammer a while ago. Figured I could make a few bucks selling them to GTR owners for track use. j/k

back to your question- unplug the GPS antenna...or put a switch on it.

A
