WHORED ECU's!

I know many of us on the board send out our ECU's to different companys, some people more than once, I know most tuners open up the ECU and dont just plug it in to tune the ECU. I was thinking about getting a spare ecu mainly because i dont want problems with my dealer, and to see who has the best tune. Does anyone know if its simple to get a spare ECU in the car?

Lets get a group buy going!, 1000 might be worth it to have a warranty on a 40k motor

I'm in. I recently did the RPi ram air kit and the section three RPi exhaust. Now I'm stuck with what to do next. I'm worried about finding a trustworthy garage to do the pulleys and I'm worried about voiding my warranty by an ECU flash. Undoubtably, I'll do both, I'm just trying to figure out which is less risky.

No not at all Darren, I am interested in getting the ECU so I can do more mods with the benefit have having a ECU to maximize the gains. We dont have many Euro tuners in my area so having a stock ECU on hand would make things alot easier when I go in for a service. I am planning on the RPI setup for start and the ECU they have makes good amount of HP, no lose situation

Next set of questions:

1. can the dealer see that the physical CPU is not the original-possibly from a systems check.

2. once the cpu is "burned" for your car, can it ever be resold or reused for another vin or is it married to that one engine forever?

You can't just put an ECU from a different car, like you said it has to be married to the car and vin coded. I'm pretty sure a used ECU out of a totaled m5/m6 will work as long as the dealer codes it to the car.

So if I buy one for $1k, and get it tuned for $1k, can I sell it used to another member? And don't '08's have a different computer as well?

Tuners need to jump in to this thread...
