Hi,
I need the expertise from some of you that have changed your exhaust.
I am considering installing the NEW Stebro exhaust (back section only) and need to know if I will experience any computer errors.
I installed a set of the Angel Ibright - worked great for about 6 months then all H*&*LL broke loose:grrrrr:!!
The front parking light error came on, but NO LIGHT was out.ouich
The dealer went nuts trying to figure out what was wrong until they checked the angle eye lights - the service tech (who has been servicing this car and all my previous ones) told me he had never seen an aluminum housing such as this) - when he re-installed the orginal ones, everything went back to normal!! Loved the lights but hated those damn errors!!:lightbulb:
ANYWAY, I do not want to run into any computer errors or unwanted lights on the dash - the beast works wonderful (touch wood) but need to make a little more noise!!:M5launch:
Can some you elaborate on your own experiences with aftermarket exhausts.
Thanks a mil,
Duff

Changing cans only should not create any problems whatsoever. A very large number of us have changed at least the cans and I have not heard of a single issue.

Starting to feel much better about the idea!!
Do you suggest having the Dealer do this or a local shop?

if you are planning on changing the mufflers only, you shouldnt get any errors whatsoever ...

in regard to the installation you will have to cut your current stock exhaust from behind the mufflers in order to put on your "stebro" mufflers ... depending on the manufacturer of the mufflers you might need to weld the mufflers or use clamps if supplied by them.

I have the Stebro mufflers (4) on my 2008 M5. My M5 was the first E60 that they did (they needed the measurements). The system is fantastic and there are NO computer faults to worry about.
I even spoke to BMW Canada about warranty issues, and, after being ignored initially, I sent Lindsey Duffield (President) an email. He got one of the VPs to call me. After much "evasive discussion", he admitted that there "probably" wouldn't be any problems and they WOULD honour the warranty, unless it can be proven that the new mufflers affected something else. It hasn't, and I am very pleased with the system.

The Stebro company is located here in Ottawa, so I had them install the mufflers. They were welded on, and any shop can do that for you.

Did you see the video of my car on the Stebro web site? My wife's Z4 is there as well. Lindsey Duffield viewed the Z4 video and said the sound was "sweet".

The Stebro muffler tips are a bit larger than the stock system, and it looks great.

I have had tons of compliments on the exhaust note.

You WILL be noticed even more with the Stebro exhaust!

Stebro Exhaust

I had a full stebro exhaust system on my '76 Triumph TR6 - man, what a sound.
I called them directly - Dan (the owner) was (is) fantastic. gave me a great deal on set - after hearing the difference that Canuck BMW has made (on the Stebro Website) I do feel it is the best sound yet - the quality is MORE than #1 (Being manufacturerd in CANADA) - should be getting tyhem today or tomrrow - have made arrangments to have them installed by a reputable speed shop in Toronto.
Stebro has been around for years and years - the leader in exhaust replacement for the real high end autos - i.e. Ferrari, Porsche, etc.
Will post a video with sound, once completed.

Canuck and 2duff (once installed), is there any drone in the cabin at certain RPM's? Try to get some in cabin audio as well, please.

Ok, I just checked the eBay video and they have outside and inside cabin sound, but I'd like another source, perhaps inside cabin cruising at a couple different speeds rather than just accelerating.

2duff...funny...I had a Stebro on my 69 Triumph Spitfire! Yes, Dan is a great guy. They have people who want to ask me about the system, but no one ever actually calls. I am more than willing to talk to anyone who wants more information. Send a PM and I'll give anyone my phone number.
A member from New Jersey was supposed to call last week, but never did.

There is a definite drone inside the cabin while driving. It did take a while for me to get used to it, and of course my neighbours have made some comments about the noise!
Start up, with a cold engine, is a bit loud, but it smooths out when the engine warms up. My wife loves the sound of her car and mine, but complains how our brass wall attachments vibrate in the living room when the cars are started in the garage!!:eek:oohhh:
As soon as you hit the gas, the exhaust note changes from a drone to a sweet F1 sound. There are no valves in a Stebro system.

Stebro has been around for more than 50 years. The originals owners (Austrian and British) started the company to finance the Austrian's F1 racing costs in the 50's & 60's! The company disappeared from performance exhaust market in the 80's, as they had a contract to supply exhaust systems to all Canadian military vehicles for 17 years. Now you know why some military trucks were so loud! They just got back into this market about 5 years ago, but didn't really do much until the past 2 years. They now want to get their name out there again.
They even design and fabricate systems for antiques. I saw one on the showroom floor for a 1930's saloon-type car (can't remember the name), that was being shipped to California.

Vlad is their main designer/installer/test driver. He is a great guy too.

They feel that their main competition (sound wise) is Tubi, but, at their prices, I would only get the Stebro ($2500) for an E60 M5, including a lifetime warranty!
