I am looking to buy a set of headers and was wondering which one is best. I've heard a lot of great reviews on Evosport. The only reason why I ask is because it seems like the cars with Evosport headers have totally different sound from stock headers. More raspier and loses the V10 howling sound. More of a muscle car sound which I don't like.
I love the way how my sec 1 & 2 Meisterschaft GT sounds and I would love to keep that same sound but louder. Which headers would be best?
I think the new RDsport - Racing Dynamics header is very nice. A friend of mine Emailed me this picture, it looks TIG welded and pretty much equal length. I'm looking for something that can at least let me know some dyno numbers on it. I'm also in the market for a header.... the supersprint and evosport headers look like edelbrock made them....bad craftsmanship for that kind of money.
Those RDsport headers look pretty sick. Ive had the SS in hand and theyre good quality. May not be show polished or anything, but the design is good and workmanship is quality.
Conduct a search on RPI GT Headers! It utilizes the stock headers and at the same time give you significant gains. It is an excellent choice for people who need to pass smog test without going through the hassle of 15hrs of labour to remove the headers. If you can wait long enough (3-4 weeks), I will provide you with my personal feedback as I'm getting a set from RPI.:applause:
The RDSport headers do look very nice. Are they truly equal length?
I have Supersprint headers basically because when getting headers this was all there was as a choice in the market. Back then (Nov. '06) there were comments that you had to hurry because production was going to be limited. I fell for it.
I will say that I have been very happy with the SS header performance.
I believe that the different headers available all make the same relative power.
In actuality the removal of the primary cats (built into the stock headers) is what truly makes the hp gains. The RPI product IMO proves this.
The exhaust note achieved may have more to do with the exhaust system utilized.
If I'm not mistaken didn't RPI post dyno results with their stock header design with the primary cats removed?
I believe they were 28 rwhp and 31 ft/lbs. Those are good numbers. The SS and Evosport headers are in the same range.
Once again it appears to be the primary cats.
Yep I have the RDSport headers as well as their race cats. Well, I actually have the complete system which also has their X-pipe and competition exhaust. I mention this because the mufflers influence the sound quite a bit, probably more so than the headers. This system has a nice deep rumble at idle but escalates to a higher pitched sound as the rpm climbs.
The RDSport headers as well as the Evosport and Supersprint units will all sound different when you combine them with different types of exhausts/mufflers at the end.

I have heard evosport, RDsport, SS, and RPI headers in person and have seen all except RD on the same dyno. SS, RDsport, and RPI preserved the V10 sound of high pitch while evosport has a bigger diameter and long tube and gave V8 rumble/pulsing like muscle car.
Evosport has the most top end power but a dip on torque in midrange comparing to SS on the same dyno back-to-back with the same operator (with exact the same mods). I never seen SS side-by-side with RPI, but on the same dyno (same operator but different day), I think RPI pick up more torque on the midrange than both SS and evosport but not much peak power compared to Evosport.
The power gains from every system is very impressive. While all the above comments are spot on, remember the difference in installation depending on the header design as well. Supersprint and RD Sport require assembly of each indivdaul tube if I am not mistaken, while the Evosport is already fixed in place. So there is a bunch of variances to take into effect here. Bottom line, a great mod for power on this car.
The RDSport system is like the Evosport system in that it's fixed/welded and does not have a removable merge collector like the Supersprint. Here are some other differences:
1) RDSport and Supersprint are stainless steel
2) Evosport is mild steel but has jet hot coating
3) RDSport and Supersprint are advertised to be equal length but in pics it looks like the Supersprint is the closest to this design
4) As mentioned before, the Supersprint system has a removable merge collector so it's a modular system while the RDSport and Evosport systems are fixed.
I did not know that and I checked both the Racing Dynamics and RDSport websites and they still have the "old"(?) design.
Also, the picture posted by John Smith doesn't look anything like what I have and what's pictured on those sites. Here's a pic of my headers/cats before the installation.
RDSport does indeed have a new design. Darren verified this with RD yesterday. They have equal length design with the modular merge collector setup similar to supersprint. According to RDSport, they are seeing 51 rwhp with the new design and a large jump in midrange power. $8400 list.
For anyone interested, I just got off the horn with my indy dealer who will be installing an interesting new set up using OEM factory headers while replacing the stock primary cats with high flow primary cats and removing the secondary cats (for racing purposes only, of course :blink. He has successully installed this on his own M6. This combination has been tested by his contacts in Germany with an apparent increase of 58 crank horsepower, while remaining emissions legal with no check engine increased emissions light. If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll get you his contact info.
I realize that through videos, exhausts can be made to sound loud or quiet by simply adjusting the volume, so they are not very useful to judge the loudness of the exhaust. But they can be helpful to get in getting a sense of the tone and quality of the exhaust note. Bottom line, it sounds much better in person.
Personally, I am not interested in the noise so much as the performance improvement.
Not really familiar with the RPI setup. Superficially, the difference appears to be that the setup I mentioned does not delete the primary cats entirely from the OEM headers, but instead replaces them with high flow primary cats attached to the stock headers to avoid emissions issues and necessary software to disable the check engine/increased emissions light. Secondary cats are deleted.
After a ride in the M6 with this set up and the same Dinan mods in my signature, I was sold. I have never had my head pinned to the seat like that under WOT acceleration, even in my buddy's CL65 AMG. I had been hesitant to get headers since I have Dinan software which doesn't disable the CEL, and due to concerns that I might not pass emissions. This is therefore the best solution for me, and I should be having this done in the next month or so. I'll keep you posted.
You have evo headers right? Your car will never get any louder than evosport one. Evosport has a bigger and long tube design. Stock headers with prime cats removal like RPI not as loud as evosport one. I assume with hi flow prime cats as he mentioned, it will be even less loud.
No, stock right now. Dont want to be much louder than I am.
