Thoughts on this HIGH mileage M5
Hello all! Noob here wanting to make the transition from e46 M3 to e60 M5. So, I have been busy searching and I found this example here Enthusiast Auto: 2006 BMW M5 Manual Sedan Am I crazy to consider such a high mileage example? I love the upgrades that have been done to the car. They are pretty much exactly what I would want to do, plus he does say that it has a 100k mile warranty. Any thoughts or orpinions would sure be appreciated! Thanks.

I donīt see the problem if the car is alright?
There is a person here in Sweden who has an M5 E60 with over 137.000 miles on the clock, and itīs running perfect still to this day

Why risk it? You can find much less miles for a little more $$.

Thanks for the thoughts. I am currently trying to get a little more info. regarding the car, like is the warranty through BMW. What kind of service history the car has, etc. I also realize there are a ton of M5s available at incredible prices, but I like my cars with upgrades, and it is always nice when someone else takes that hit. So, although I coud get a lower mileage stock example for $50k or so, I would need at least $12k to get it to where this car already is. Plus, I have never had a probem with higher mileage BMWs, that being said, though, the technology in this car isn't really proven long term yet, and that definitely scares me!!

I see your point...we are all probably being a little paranoid...but who knows. You are saving some great money in the upgrades and I am sure you can get a better deal on this specific car.

Pretty sure that's member Wolverine's M5. He's a respected member here. May want to PM him for full details.

Good catch - here's my response to Charlie's PM:
Yes, it was a heck of a surprise to me, but that's my car and it's not currently for sale.
The guy that posted the ad I guess did it to see what kind of price he could get. I told him I'd be selling early next year. He owns a BMW shop here in town, and his Dad wants to buy the car when I'm ready.
I'm replacing it with a new 7 series, AND a track-ready Cayman S. I'll pick up both cars around March of next year, and that's when my beast will go to some lucky owner. It's really been an incredible car, and I've treated it very, very well.
Mike
I should add that the only major problems I've had with the car are with the tranny, full drivetrain (tranny, clutch, pressure plate) replacement at 25K miles, clutch position sensor at 60K and hydraulic actuator at 70K. That's why I got the extended warranty...
