I can't sleep for two reasons!!
Many of you have seen me on this board for a long time. A few comments here and there; reading or better yet drooling at all the amazing stories and pictures everyone is sharing. Its been a long wait for me and something that I have wanted for quite some time. On Saturday I will be picking up my first ever M5. As a young buck I placed above my desk a poster picture of the e39 M5 and now have an e60 M5 as my screen saver. No other car in the world fits my personality like an M5 - understated but a beast inside.
I know I should be thanking all my amazing clients and employees for presenting this gift but I do feel it is quite deserved . Getting something you want after such a long wait is a very scary/thrilling experience. You are worried how it will live up to all the expectations that have been set in your head. I can't sleep one night without thinking about Saturday when I pick up an M5 that is slightly used (6700km) for such a deal that waiting for the 09s would be such a dumb move! The other reason I can't sleep is that I have always been a 6 speed man and I have opted to try the SMG. As a technology freak I am looking forward to figuring it all out and learning a new tranny. I don't want to test drive it because I am fairly certain I will not get enough exposure to get good at it and give it a chance. Wish me luck!
I really do want to thank everyone so much for all the great posts and information to make me informed enough that I feel like I could go in and sell an M5 better then any dealer. Nonetheless THANK YOU so much. This board is amazing and the people on here are top notch. Saturday is the big day, the wait is finally over! Two more sleepless nights .
Promise to post pics when I get the car!

I have been following your posts and am positively thrilled for you. After this long wait, I believe you will enjoy your "new" M5 all the more. IMHO, I agree that you made a good decision in buying a lightly used one over an '09. I think you will grow to like the SMG, which is one of my favorite things about the car.

I promise that you will not be disappointed.
I've had my car for over a year now (May 2007, one of the first 2008 models), and I can tell you that I always have a sh1teating grin when I'm driving. I'm alway finding something that, either surprises me or I can improve upon when driving.
Lately, I've been trying out the car with DSC off; just short straight line bursts...what a blast.
Anyway, don't forget to post pix. Congratulations and good luck.

Good luck. The switch from a standard gear box to the SMG is very easy. Modulate the throttle like you would on a standard and the driving is a pleasure. Probably the time that the most "thought" is necessary is slowing down to a near or full stop since the computer is not quite as intuitive your left foot would be.
You are lucky that the break in was already done for you.

Congratulations, you'll love it.
I come from a long history of manual transmission cars, and I was very reserved about SMG. If you drive it as a stick, not the horrible D mode, you will really grow to like it.

Welcome to the SMG club. You won't regret it unless you drive it in D mode...

I just left a 6-speed 540i so I drive my SMG like it is a standard and I love it. I don't miss having to push in a clutch at all and I do not have a doubt in my mind that you will miss it either. Enjoy.

Insurance done, plates in hand, cheque being prepared tomorrow. What an expensive weekend. I am buying an engagement ring for my girl and purchasing this car (100k in total expenditures).
Wicked timing that I am getting something nice for myself and even for her. Hahaha what a crazy awesome week its going to be!
Got to love women. First thing she asked me when I told her about the M "so happy for you, do you have enough for that and my ring or do you need to borrow some money" :P. I love her!
