2006 M5 DRL... iDrive or Dealer Programmed?
Can someone confirm whether DRL (Daytime running lights) are enabled via iDrive or have to be done by a dealer for an 06 M5.
Also, are they on by default or off?
Thanks.
-Chris.

If you go into the settings menu & then light settings there is a feature which allows you to toggle on / off.
Read the owners handbook, it will tell you all that you can do with the car.

Thanks but I can't find any reference to this in the manual I have. (06 M5 US) I also suspect this is a regional setting. I'm almost certain that countries that mandate DRL (like Canada) will not have this option in the iDrive menu.
Can anyone with an O6 M5 from the US chime in on this?

SA's are generally retarted... so I wouldn't trust their answer but on top of that, here in Canada, I'm almost certain it's a dealer programmable option. I don't know the situation in the US which is where I plan to buy a car.
Can someone with an 06 simply check their iDrive settings and let me know if it's there?
Thank you kindly!

You have a Canadian car with Canadian programming, disabling DRLs is not an option in iDrive.
You need to go to an aftermarket .... read this for the details

I have an '06 and had to have the dealer turn on the DRLs for me. I had the software updated about a year ago, and can find nothing in iDrive that allows the driver to toggle the DRLs on/off.
In Canada DRLs are mandatory I believe so a Canadian market car probably will not allow the driver to turn them off. If buying a US market car and importing it into Canada, then the DRLs will have to be activated.

Mea Culpa for not reading thoroughly....
Once you get Canadian programming, DRLs should turn on (with no option), I was going the other way. Just have a Canadian dealer give you the latest programming.
