///M cars a waste in North America?
Just like your opinions on this issue. I drove my M6 to work today, nice cool air, lots of power.
In Ontario (name your state / province), you get charged with "Street Racing" if you go 50 km/h+ over the speed limit and your car get confiscated for 7 days at the side of the road and a maximum fine of $10,000.
I spoke to a senior police official at a social event a few weeks ago and the new rule in Ontario has effectively created a new cruising speed of 140-145 km/h on the highways (limit is 100 km / h).
Back to this morning, I am cruising at 145 km/h and minivans with neutered males are passing at 160 km/h. In the good old days, that wouldn't happen....now with the new rules, I rare go above 150 km /h.
What a waste of a good car..... Are our cars wasted on today's highways? I only track the M6 2-3 times a year. Should I get a Miata or a Cayman??
Sucks to fear the law.

I hear you T...it does suck that we really cant drive them the way they should be driven...or at least at a more adrenaline driven speed...but I still have tremendous joy driving this car, even at low speeds. My commute to work doesnt allow we to go above 45 mph but in that whole 3-4 minute ride I am happy and smiling and cant wait to get back in my car. It's nice just knowing what we can do...at least for me that keeps me satisfied, well most of the time anyway!!

Now on the other hand last Friday I was about 30 miles east of Stateline NV on the 15 northbound, just cruzin about 80 minding my own business, up from behind out of nowhere came a new Corvette and a 335 BMW, that each one of them one at a time paced my passanger door side, obviously it was time.......at 80 I dropped enough gear to bring my pace at 6500 rpm, waited until no cars in front in site for a few miles, gave them the node, and rammed it to the floor, the 335 stayed with the Vette, but the M5 pulled like my payment tells me it should.....damn thats fun reached 140 in a few seconds.
But, thought many times of the consequence if CHP were to radar. In CA its considered Reckless Driving, reckless constitues 3 driving offenses in one violation, no mandatory jail, although up to officer discretion at the time. Fine is under a thousand, but insurance is severly effected for up to 3 years, that can be costly.

This sounds like you'd be happy just getting a handjob from that drop dead blonde instead of riding her like she's supposed to be ridden

T Bone you touch on something I was complaining to my buddy about the other night. They need to stop making the "M or S or RS" looking cars the best looking cars in the range. If you want the M look but don't need the power your pretty much screwed. I just think they see the autobahn in their back yard and develop cars for it.
The new speed laws suck but just like you said everyone is just driving 140/145 all the time. BTW I would recommend a Belarc STi detector. Its not traceable and my buddy uses it for his 911 and its saved him a ton of times!!

i got rolled first time in 7 years doing 90 in a 60 on highway 1.. asked the cop for a warning and he started laughing. stupid cops, should be giving tickets to excursions w/ trailers doing 70 on highway w/ those donut-wheels on the 40 foot trailer instead of me doing 90 on highway w/ the best performance car in the world.. doing 90 w/ m5 on highway is like doing 40 w/ excursion w/ trailer

Trust me, you guys have nothing to complain about. Here in Victoria, Australia the road laws are incredibly tight. Maximum speed anywhere is 110km/h, and there is basically no leeway (maybe 5km/h at that speed). My dad has been booked for doing 62km/h in a 60km/h zone. Oh and not to mention we pay $230,000 USD for the right to drive such an amazing car at these absurdly low speed limits.
