        2009 M5 Dinan S3 Inquiry

I'm interested in a 09 M5 S3 ... Does anyone on the board have any real life experience? ... I found Classic BMW in Dallas is a Dinan dealer. Do they do the conversion at the dealership or do they order direct from Dinan? How long is the order process? ... Does the power translate to the ground effectively? ... Is the M5 going to change models or body styles soon? I plan on keeping the car 3 years.

        Thanks!
        Dario

I know that most people will say to call the dealer and ask but they will tell me what I want to hear ... I want to know if anyone has real experience.

        Dario,

Lots of good questions. Let me help out where I can.

First, only deal with Pat Arnold at Classic BMW. He is THE Dinan guy and very knowledgeable. Second, the conversion of the motor is performed at Dinan's facility in CA. The motor, in crate form, is then shipped to Classic and they perform the swap out. In the meantime, Classic BMW provides you with a loaner car while they have your vehicle.

I flew to CA and test drove the first converted M5. Unfortunately the car had 21" wheels that were brutally heavy and it didn't truly reveal the potential of the car.

There have been no real world road tests published yet. I would like to know:

        1. 0-60 time
        2. 1/4 mile time and speed
        3. 60-130 time

        Regards,

        Darren

Thanks GUYS!! ... Watching the videos now ... I can assume they don't give you a loaner if you're ordering a NEW car and not dropping off an existing one?

For the E60 M5 the S3 package is the stroker. Is that correct?
Sorry I did not watch the videos.

        Juan,

I am not sure that they have actually labelled anythung S2 or S3. But I think people are calling the stroker + all required accessories the S3 package.

The S3 package is more expensive than the engine alone as it includes a number of other items including the throttle bodies, intakes, exhaust, suspension, etc.
