iPhone owners - 2.02 update fixes BMW iDrive problems [but not all problems]

For those who have an iPhone (original or 3G) that have had problems getting it to pair with your iDrive or sync contacts there now appears to be a solution.

Apple have just released iPhone 2.02 and I've just been out and test with my 2006 M5 and my address book now appears on the iDrive allowing me to voice dial, see the names of incoming callers, etc. More info here:
iPhone 2.02 fixes BMW iDrive address book sync problems

To update to 2.02 simply connect your iPhone to your computer, fire up iTunes and click the check for update option.

Enjoy!

UPDATE - I jumped the gun a bit here, I've not been able to get the contacts to sync with iDrive again since.

looks like the car is still sorting AND displaying contacts in order of "Last name, First name".
i know this is minor, but any work around for this?

yes, i had the same issue when i got my phone, go into your settings menu on your iphone, then click on mail, contacts... scroll down to the bottom you'll see "sort by" change that to "first name, last name" by default it's Last name first... hope that helps.

I've just been out and tried again and now none of the contacts appear. So close....
I thought it might just be my iPhone with 600+ contacts so I took the liberty of updating my friend's 3G iPhone which he bought yesterday with only a handful of contacts on and it too didn't sync any contacts.

Looks like those with 2008 and newer cars still don't have any problems. 2.0, 2.01 and 2.02 still leaving me with no contacts on the iDrive, guess 1.1.4 might be making a return on my iPhone.

nope... i guess you didn't read my prior posts regarding this issue. changing the settings for contacts on the iphone still does not allow you to do the following:

1) sort in order of Last Name, First Name
2) yet display by First Name, Last Name

try it see if you can get it to work

Thanks Scoopz. I have been waiting to get the "thumbs up" ever since you said that you would be the guinea pig.

I have been looking forward to the 2.0 update for quite a while and it looks like I will have to wait no longer. If I have a problem after updating then I will let you (and others) know.

Thanks again.

dude, that's what I'm telling you, when i sorted my iphone to list contacts "first name, last name" or "Last name, first name" it worked just fine. When i make the change on the iphone it's reflected in my address book in the idrive... The two guys here at work with M5's and myself don't have any address sorting problems like you mention.

it's not a problem with sorting... it's a problem of displaying
mine will sort either by First Name or Last Name no problem, but won't display by order First Name

for example

John Smith
Michael Jones
David Baker
Steven Robertson

if sorted by Last Name would appear as the following:

1. Baker, David
2. Jones, Michael
3. Robertson, Steven
4. Smith, John

but what i want instead is the following:

1. David Baker
2. Michael Jones
3. Steven Robertson
4. John Smith

yes... sorted by order of Last Name, but displayed with First Name first
i sure can't get mine to work that way...

and you are certain your car can do this?

@Scoopz:

Confirm you still have an old iPhone which has been upgraded to 2.x and if so, does the pairing hold after receiving an incoming call with this new software regardless of phonebook issues?

Right now my iPhone 1 looses pairing after receiving an incoming call and I was told by BMW that this can be fixed by installing a new telematric control unit which is capable of the new bluetooth protocols. So my question is simple: Can a first gen iPhone be paired with an old TMCU ('06) by installing the 2.02 software?

Thanks
