ok, i just went down stairs to check this out again...

...and i have no problems displaying, sorting or anything with my address book display between the iphone and idrive...

if i set my iphone to sort and disply names either "first name, last name" or "last name, first name" it shows the update in the idrive address book display...

did you try to reconnect/resync your iphone up to your car ?

If I'm miss understanding you, sorry... just trying to help.

mine will sort either by First Name or Last Name no problem, but won't display by order First Name

for example

John Smith
Michael Jones
David Baker
Steven Robertson

if sorted by Last Name would appear as the following:

1. Baker, David
2. Jones, Michael
3. Robertson, Steven
4. Smith, John

but what i want instead is the following:

1. David Baker
2. Michael Jones
3. Steven Robertson
4. John Smith

yes... sorted by order of Last Name, but displayed with First Name first
i sure can't get mine to work that way...

and you are certain your car can do this?

I have a v1 iPhone and a 2005 E60 M5. The iPhone is now running the 2.0.2 firmware but no contact information comes through on iDrive in the car. This has not worked since I upgraded from 1.x to 2.x on the iPhone. Does anyone know who is expected to fix this? Given that it worked fine with 1.x firmware on the iPhone I can imagine BMW saying "it's not our problem". But with three 2.x firmware releases from Apple for the iPhone it seems we are still no closer to a solution.

Thanks LinoD...
i guess i've got a lemon idrive... but i suppose it's not a surprise considering that so many others on this board have reported unexplainable quirks with their idrive...

Why does this work on Scoopz 06 and not yours?

I have a Nov 2005 build 550 (MY 2006) and my iPhone pairs perfectly. Running the 2.0 software right now.

It also pairs just fine with my 2008 M5 (July 2007 build).

I'm running the 2.02 update on my 3G iPhone in my 07/07 build M5 and it synchs and works well. I used to have a slight echo in the car on my end during conversations, but that's completely gone now.

I have been looking forward to the 2.0 update for quite a while and it looks like I will have to wait no longer. If I have a problem after updating then I will let you (and others) know.

Thanks again.
If you've not updated yet read my subsequent post #4 - I jumped the gun and address book still not syncing for me under 2.02.

Yes I'm still using the original (old) iPhone updated from 1.1.2->1.1.3->1.1.4->2.0->2.01->2.02.
My iPhone has always paired to the iDrive and I've never had an issue with needing to repair but under 1.1.2/1.1.3/1.1.4 if I didn't turn off my wi-fi I'd get intermittent calls dropping (i.e. cannot hear 3rd party and they cannot hear me even though stereo auto-mutes) but if I jumped into the settings menu and turned wi-fi off the call instantly came back through speakers. With all the flavours of 2.0 they've managed to get one thing right, I no longer need to turn wi-fi off, the connection is good the whole time I just don't get any contacts.

My car is a December 2005 build and first gen iPhone pairs. Do BMW want to charge you to upgrade the TMCU?

@Scoopz:

Yes, a new TCU costs 340 Euro ex VAT. I have seen official BMW documents stating that my (pre '08) M5 will not pair with an iPhone and a new ('08) TCU is needed to get it fixed. However it seemed somewhat logical that new iPhone software could fix this. I will await an updated iPhone to test with my car before upgrading myself.
