"Engine Malfunction; Reduced power!" & "Increased Emissions"
Just got these dreaded warnings this afternoon! the first one happened after I had been driving about 15 miles or so, nothing excessive. continued to my destination and left her alone for about 30 minutes and started her back up... everything seemed ok. I even stayed in P400 mode, then on the drive back home got both warnings!!??
and yes I did a search on the subject.... just wondering who has had similar experiences... and if there is any chance it will "self-correct"???

I've had it!

In my case it was a bad o2 sensor. Only way to tell, is run it to the dealer.

Yes I had the same message about 2 months ago and had to bring the M5 in for service which turned out to be an O2 sensor malfunction. It was repaired within the week and all is back to normal. You should take it to the dealer.

Well, you obviously are aware of the sensitivity of looking before asking, but I find it very hard to believe that a search on the subject did not yield any results. This is by far one of the most discussed subjects with the E60.

Due to the complexity of our cars, these error messages can be due to a multitude of problems. Although some of this has been discussed and can be found though doing a search, occasionally people who haven't posted on this have had a similar problem with a resolution that has not yet been discussed and cannot be found solely through doing a search. Therefore in some instances, topics like this might be worth revisiting.

Case in point--I recently had the identical error messages shortly after having the Dinan intakes and Stage 3 software installed, and had to have my Dinan throttle bodies replaced (after I used the search tool, I didn't post on the subject partly because I didn't want to get the famous "do a search" response). Apparently the most recent version of the TB's are made a little differently, preventing this problem from occurring with the new Dinan intakes. So far I have yet to get the message again.

OTDoc, I think you need to bring this to your local BMW dealer for diagnostics and contact Dinan as well. I know you don't have the Dinan TB's but it is remotely possible that you might need to have these in order to prevent this error occurring with the new intakes.

I've had the "increased emissions" message - fixed after a software updating at BMW.

i had a broken oil pump and broken chain between my gear and oil pump. didnt have my car for 2 weeks

I get it periodically. Mine I think is due to the gas cap issue. Usally after the second tank the message is gone. But I am tryig to get Barry to call for me I want an '08
