2008 M5 .09% APR -BMW's market mistake?

I have owned all sorts of BMWs. When did you ever see a "M" car with a financing deal? Hopefully, BMW has learned its lesson -that this "M5" direction is not working. The thing I am starting (actually started with the new 7er) to hate about BMW is it all about marketing projections and trends etc...True drivers and those that love to drive are not trends; they are loyal consumers of a brand that is for drivers. That new 5er is a disaster and ugly!! This is possibly the reason that the Greenville, SC BMW has about 5 of the M5s sitting there with $100K price tags and no takers. Forget the resale and CPO mess...BMW are you listening?

E60s not holding up here either. New $240K, 2yo 12000km $160 000 AUD. Seems to me to be a big drop for a very low km 2yo car.

Nope....

BMW isn't listening and doesn't care. They'll blame global economic "conditions" for slow sales.

Fact is, during this 5-year model run of E60/63/64 "M" cars, they'll sell well over 100k units; dwarfing the < 20k global unit sales during prior models' 5 years production. You're right, it's all about marketing. With the current crop of "M" cars, you're directing the steering wheel of one big computer; made up of 37 CPU's, most of which provide complex, expensive, unreliable, useless "features".

I wish BMW AG would leave all of that to their entire regular model lines; and let the "M" division produce "drivers cars". But, that won't happen. Sales growth and market share are all that matters. "Gizmos" sell. BMW AG shareholders won't tolerate low production volume, miniscule profit contribution, "drivers cars" being offered to loyal enthusiasts. It's a crying shame.

Given a few more years, 'think your "wish" will be fulfilled. Can you imagine what an out of warranty E60/63/64 "M" car will be worth??!! How about ZERO!! NOBODY will want one.

even though the people that can afford these (E60M5) can afford the gas, do you think that gas prices have anything to do with it?

the car is not particulary attractive -- which is a must for a $100K car
lack of low end torque
high price
super complex - tons of computers
I drive
no CPO examples -- this will crush the used market even more -- wait until the 3 year lease cars start coming off lease... 3 years old, 36K miles... they will be in the high 40s low 50s at best and no one will want to touch them for fear of ridiculous repair bills...

my only fear is that the next one will be even more complex, heavier, and costly.

(I would buy an smg E60 M5 Wagon though if I could)

no CPOs is probably one of the biggest decision factor for me.

What does it say about its reliability if even the manufacture BMW are not willing to CPO it.

As much as I am intrigue with E60 M5, I'll need more convincing to buy one. (but if E60 B5S Alpina make it over here, counts me in )

Regardz,

J Irwan
