I know this wasn't directed at me...but the question seemed rhetorical. I think cars that don't use a turbo(s) or supercharger(s) but can perform similarly to ones that do are engineering marvels. The M5/M6 are extraodinary cars. However, just because a manufacturer chooses different means to deliver performance doesn't mean that they are using a crutch (turbos, supercharger...greater displacement). IMHO...when comparing cars' performance it should be apples to apples. If you are going to to use a stock car in a comparison...then make sure it is a stock car it is being compared to. The same goes for comparisons of modded cars. I have never been a proponent of spraying. If you are doing an Outlaw class where anything goes...yeah...sure..go with whatever you want. I am not sure it is a "crutch"... but it doesn't really say much when trying to compare the relative performance of "street cars" if the other car isn't spraying.

First off, I know the owner and driver of that car, they are friends of mine. That run (226) was done in Michigan, the same place we ran the 0-200-0 for Car& Driver. He is comming after my 1 mile record, 229.7 mph in the Supra. We are currently finishing up my newest Supra project. I hope to run 235+ in the Oct. Mile race. Most people don't understand what it takes to break 200 mph in a standing mile. It's not all about hp, there alot of factors involved.

I had a 92 notchback, ended up removing the NOS and built a fuel injected 351W We are on the same page with the whole power adder issue. In regards to Juan/M5 rangers car, when an ASR M5 is run all motor with no power adders the outcome was this YouTube - Built Z06 vs. ASR M5 (ALL MOTOR NO NOS)

Agreed. Stock should be compared to stock no matter what the power adder is. Modded to modded, all bets are off. These vids sum up the amazing performance of the Z06 and the massive amounts of power as well as $ it takes to beat a stock one.

You lucky bastard, so you are him Supra MKIV is the best, I love Supra MKIV with all my heart, hopefully I will get one next year!! I really do hope that you will reach that speed, omg

That is true, most people seem to see only the amount of horsepower but they do forget the lack of grip, gearing, tyres and many other things.

My Z runs out of (4th) gear @ 159mph. Once shifted into 5th, the car falls flat on it's face. The step between 4th and 5th is so far, that the theoretical top speed of 5th is 225mph, (and 6th is 275mph!)

Obviously, the stock motor can't pull those speeds, so the race is pretty much done @ 159mph. Now, a modded engine...

I think the engine is just fine, a Z06 with better gearing is undoubtably a 200+ mph car.

Therein lies the key, "with better gearing." As we know the Z is a 200+mph car* already but it takes 40 miles to get there...

* 205 as measured by GPS (In stock configuration, this is where fuel cutoff is.)

I see you live in Ca, why on earth would you want to go that fast anyway?

To me a car that is faster from 0-159mph is a better buy than one that is faster than 159mph-200mph in California. If you cant catch me by 159mph, then perhaps some mods are in order..

Because I can.

It's certainly more useful/practical.

Only if I found it important to "catch" you. Right now, I'm not seeing it's importance...
